How well do you know the Qantas Frequent Flyer and Oneworld Lounge access rules...
--

1. You are travelling with your 5-year-old child and your partner (3 pax total) on a QF domestic flight.
You're all in economy and the child is the only person with status - holding QF Gold.
Can you all enter the lounge?

2. You're departing SYD on Cathay Pacific as a QF Plat. Your friend is departing at the same time on Fiji Airways (FJ#) and holds no status. Can you guest them into the F lounge?

3. You're in First Class on QF (SYD-LAX), and you hold both QF Gold (Sapphire) and AA Executive Platinum (Emerald) status. How many total guests can you bring into SYD F lounge?

4. You're departing Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar in economy class on Malaysia Airlines with a Garuda Indonesia flight number#. Can you use the Golden Lounge in KUL using your QF Gold status?

5. DOH-SYD on Qatar Airways in economy class as QF Chairmans Lounge (OW Emerald). How many guests can you take into the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha?

I pretty sure i know the answers, but here is a couple more:

6. You're departing SYD on Cathay Pacific in economy as a QF Plat. Your friend is departing at the same time on American Airways (AA#) in economy and holds no status. Can you guest them into the F lounge?

7. You're departing MEL on Qantas (International) in Business as a QF Plat. Your friend is departing at the same time on Malasian Airlines (MH#) in Business and holds no status. Can you guest them into the F lounge?

1- I would say no, since the rules are written as the child/children being guest(s) of the status holder, not the other way around. So the 5year old can only guest 1 person if that person is more than 18 (or 21) years old.

2- I would say no...but "Oneworld Connect" rules are very confusing...

3- You can bring 1 guest

4- No, flight needs to be marketed by OneWorld

5- No access to Al Mourjan in economy

6- Yes

7- Under QF rules no, under Oneworld rules yes. Depending on the lounge angel you may be in for an argument, but usually you can argue in favour of the Oneworld rules IME.

4- No, flight needs to be marketed by OneWorld

I feel like this is a trick question and @trippin_the_rift knows more than we do. Wouldn't surprise me if MH do allow entry, even though they're not required to under Oneworld policy.

I thought about that, but I guess it works if you have status with MH, but not with QF. In my experience it also makes a difference if the boarding pass has been printed on MH vs. GA stock.

Here’s one more:
8. You are entitled to lounge access and meet all the published rules. You have screenshots and print outs of the rules. The lounge host got up on the wrong side of the bed and doesn’t like your new hairstyle. Can you enter the lounge?

okay okay, you got me there.
Yes, Enrich Gold and above can access Golden Lounges when travelling on any MH# or MH flights. Including charters. Third party lounge access (eg: NOT Oneworld lounges) follow the same policy as if it were a OW lounge for Enrich members too. Makes it easy for pax to understand.

Generally, lounge entry is processed by the number of boarding passes and not by who owns what boarding pass. With that in mind - a child could guest 2x adults into most lounges unless question (8) applies.

NO

Is Fiji air One world yet? if so as an emerald then yes, otherwise strictly speaking no

3. You're in First Class on QF (SYD-LAX), and you hold both QF Gold (Sapphire) and AA Executive Platinum (Emerald) status. How many total guests can you bring into SYD F lounge?

one each if memory serves and only if they are traveling with you

4. You're departing Kuala Lumpur to Denpasar in economy class on Malaysia Airlines with a Garuda Indonesia flight number#. Can you use the Golden Lounge in KUL using your QF Gold status?

wild guess here NO

5. DOH-SYD on Qatar Airways in economy class as QF Chairmans Lounge (OW Emerald). How many guests can you take into the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha?
2?

9. You have flown in on a Qantas flight to Australia to LAX connecting on to a AS flight with AS flight number to Seattle can QF Gold access the Alaska lounge.

But golds only get one "actual" guest.

Without looking at what others have said, I would say:
  1. No. Qantas status allows children under a certain age to not be counted when guesting into their own lounges, but as the child holds the status, and the usual guest limit is 1 with a QF Gold membership, I would imagine only 2 of the 3 can enter the lounge under this scenario. This is the correct interpretation of the rules.
  2. No. I believe the rule (disregarding whether FJ is a oneworld Connect member or not) is that Qantas requires the guest to be travelling on the same flight. This is in their T&C and I wouldn't expect the guest who is travelling on a different airline to be allowed into the lounge.
  3. Total one guest. First class on Qantas allows one guest, and AA Executive Platinum (Emerald) also allows one guest, however the limits cannot be combined as far as I am aware, so the total is still one guest.
  4. No. Again, without looking at previous answers, I believe the flight has to be marketed and operated to get lounge access, so as this flight is carrying a Garuda flight number, it wouldn't qualify.
  5. Total one guest, assuming this is the lounge designated for "emerald" members. I haven't travelled with them, but similar to BA I understand they operate a lounge for "status" passengers to use, and a separate "business" and "first" lounge for passengers in those classes of service.
  6. No. This is the same question two, but instead of a oneworld Connect member airline, it is a full membership airline.
  7. No. As above.
If I have got any answers wrong, I would love to know.

QF do not count children as guests

What trippin_the_rift implies is that entry will be provided simply on the basis that the travelling party includes 2 adults (one is a guest) and a child without caring that the child has the status.

Qantas requires the guest to be travelling on the same flight.

Only on QF metal, and even then it's debatable.

Other oneworld metal = Oneworld rules = doesn't need to be on the same flight.

Economy Travel on Emirates, Jetstar and I guess any other non Oneworld Qantas partner that allows for Qantas lounge access for QF WP/SG would be subject to that rule.
