I've searched and v little seems to have been written about the SYD-HNL route. I have flown QF whY more times than I'd have liked, but on more 'premier' routes such as SIN, HKG and LHR. I was wondering what the whY experience is like on this 763 service to HNL. As in, is the service dumbed down substantially in any way because this is treated like more of a leisure route that they can't wait to offload completely to onestar? Besides, been a long time since I've flown QF whY...

Besides the lack of PTVs, I'm hoping I still get the following?
- Free flow mini DIY bottles of red/white wine with a proper wine glass (what sort of wine btw?) ----> most important!
- Printed menus
- A choice of 2 main courses (though I'd prolly have dinner in the Flounge)
- Dinner served after take off and hot brekkies prior to landing
- Ice cream for dessert
- After dinner tuck in service - hot choc/herbal teas
- Amenity kit with toothbrush and industrial tasting toothpaste

Or are my expectations set too high?

Oh and I actually do like the 2-3-2 config, feels less cramped than the 744 whY cabin.

Thanks. :)

P.S. Despite all that I still look forward to my trip greatly, an entire fortnight of getting pissed in various locations (with W stays :D) before coming back to cram for finals.... Off on Friday and can't wait. :)

Mini Bottles yes, I remember the white being Brown Brothers although I had juice (didn't see the red)
- Printed menus
No

Yes (Chicken Pasta or Beef Wellington as I recall)
- Dinner served after take off and hot brekkies prior to landing
Yes (although the brekky was very average)
- Ice cream for dessert
Yes (however it looked like a few tubs had melted over the rest of the served collection)
- After dinner tuck in service - hot choc/herbal teas
Sort of (I had to ask)
- Amenity kit with toothbrush and industrial tasting toothpaste
Check

I last flew QF3 in July so the above should be current. I also flew to HNL in May on Jetstar and was much more happy on QF3 if that is any help!

I'm sure you will make it to HNL in one piece :D

Expect plastic cups
I'm not sure on ice cream
Tuck-in service  I don't think you'll get that. (they got rid of that FA didn't they, you know Ralph's friend)

All the rest you should get. But then my experience is also based on europe routes

Actual wine seems to vary a bit

No tuck in service (nothing to really tuck you into!) but hot chocolate service could happen.

Amenities will be socks, eye-shades, toothbrush and toothpaste.

Your meal trays will have a small glass; use this for Vino. It's about 4cm high, 5 cm diameter at the base (tapering in to ~4cm at the rim).

Here's an image of the base showing the designer's signature:

Non dinner service drinks, Beers and mixed come with/in a larger plastic cup.

Sounds pretty much like whY on other routes then, with no PTV and printed menus.

Weren't they advertising a tuck in service post dinner in whY some time ago? Like, you get a napkin and a hot choc or chamomile tea after dinner along with the ice cream. I might just continue with the vino though.

You know, I never took notice of what time the Hot Chocolate was served - but I think it a bit much to call it a tuck in service!

There sure is, though the selection always varies, there should be at least 2 of each type. The wine glass is like the photo above, however if you order one before or after dinner and don't have a glass it will come with a larger plastic cup.

Printed menus
There should be printed menus

A choice of 2 main courses (though I'd prolly have dinner in the Flounge)
Yes there will be 2 choices and the choice should be 2 of the following
-Chicken with oyster sauce
-Braised beef with red wine, fennel and sage
-Mediterranean style chicken
-Chicken and vegetable korma
So I imagine it will be the Braised Beef and one of the other chicken dishes

Dinner served after take off and hot brekkies prior to landing
Dinner after take off, and hot breakfast or cereal prior to landing

Ice cream for dessert
As a dinner service there should be ice cream

After dinner tuck in service - hot choc/herbal teas
There should be hot chocolate and peppermint tea given with bottles of water. There are no Snack on Q bags though

Amenity kit with toothbrush and industrial tasting toothpaste
Amenity kits should be given as well

I got here in one piece. :D
That was quite a nice flight actually, for whY. mhc's list is pretty much what I got.
Oh and love the vino glass - v cool shape.

No tuck in service (nothing to really tuck you into!) but hot chocolate service could happen.

It's actually called Relax and Unwind. Got a choice of Hot Chocolate with marshmellows or Peppermint Tea.

Go to your doctor and get a prescription to 1mg Xanax...(take 1) or if you like a bit stronger some Diazepan
All you expectations can then be met.

Actually the 763's are not that bad, i remember flying them a lot in whY to Japan and seemed fine.

Actually Xanax has been a saviour. I was on Diazepam but was advised by my GP that this is slow acting where as Xanax is fast acting. On most flights 1mg Xanax is more than enough to leave all my fears behind....
