Is it worth flying Emirates F for 3 hours?

@goldenhorn now you have taken the plunge ask for the amenity kits and PJs. EK will not offer these on these short flights but do hand them out if requested.

I know that it's completely unnecessary for that length of flight, but if you have the points and want to try it then I'd say go for it!

I'm flying LCA-MLA in a fortnight with Emirates. It's only a 2.5 hour flight but there was F award availability for 36,000 Qantas points so I booked it. I don't need the lie-flat bed but I'm sure I'll enjoy the onboard dining, champagne etc. I was also able to book the Chauffeur Drive at each end (although I don't think you can do this when flying trans-Tasman and the rules on this will change next month anyway).

Just be aware they may not crack open the Dom until after take-off so you might want to hold back on the pre-takeoff booze to maximize Dom intake later :)

Indeed. It’s consistently inconsistent but I’d still ask for it when they ask for first drinks.

For a 3 hour flight I wouldn't be bothering with a shower. Sure it's novel but it's a ..... shower.
A day or two before the flight have a look at the 'What's on my flight' part of the EK site so you can see the wine list and the menu. While you don't need or get the opportunity to select in advance, I think it's useful to know what is on offer so you can eat accordingly earlier in the day. Also compare the J and F menus so you know which items on the F menu are "just" J meals on a a fancier plate.
I'm an outlier and find most champagne to be 'meh'. So I always go for the better spirits (like the Dalmore whiskey or the Hennessy Paradis cognac - $1500 a bottle or $3000 a bottle if you score the Imperial batch). In any event worth considering using the flight to sample things you otherwise wouldn't. If you don't like it, don't finish it and just ask for something else.

Enjoy. Hopefully it's just a taster for a longer EK F experience one day...

Great tip to check out what’s on the flight. I didn’t know that was possible. Probably will want a shower, not just for novelty/social media value (lol) but we will have been travelling all day after checkout that morning in Queenstown.

Thanks @kermatu!

Absolutely worth it, Just to add to the previously posted awesome pictures here are some of mine:

We are doing the exact same again next month and simply cannot wait to do it.

Not one comment about not worth it for that length of flight?

Obviously you dont get the YOLO vibe ... ;)
I totally get that you only live once and also get that once you're gone you're not supposed to remember anything.

So back to splurging points for F on a 3 hour flight. Is that 54,000 points? I've got 1.1 million points and can say with great confidence that for me it's definitely not worth it.

At the lounge now waiting for boarding in about 30 min:

Very excited. Trying not to have expectations too high!

Here’s the menu for tonight:

@kermatu That was a great tip to check the J class menu for what’s on my flight. Looks like the salmon starter and dukkah chicken and beef are all on the J menu. So I’ll try the lamb shank.

Interestingly, they brought us a large Emirates bad each with amenity kits, slippers and pajamas without asking.

Our attendant Alison was fantastic and said she wanted us to have the best possible experience.
