BUGGER. I booked my Cbr-bne-lax-slc return trip 2 weeks ago, and I actually depart on Feb 25th. BUGGER. I did hold out, hoping they'd do another status promo, and in fact I'm flying in Feb before my membership re-sets, hoping that the status left over from the last trip helps me to score an upgrade on points. But had to book at some point. damn.

No. In fact the T&Cs specifically mention this scenario.

That's what I was confused by. The T&Cs state: "Flight gift vouchers purchased during the promotion but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits."

Is the "promotion period" 18-22 February only, or between now and 31 August? The term is used without being defined, as far a I can tell. If "promotion period" is limited to 18-22 February, then this implies that you need to redeem the voucher by 22 February. But if "promotion period" extends to end of August this suggests you can book the flight after 22 February and still be eligible.

Is it safe to assume that - as for previous offers - we can purchase gift vouchers after registering, and that flights redeemed using those vouchers will qualify for DSCs (as long a travel is within 25 February - 31 August), even if those voucher flights are booked after the promo period (ie after 22 February)?
Depends on how QF reads their own T&C's... ;)
August 2018: "Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits"
October 2018: "Flight gift vouchers purchased during the promotion but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits"
February 2019: "Flight gift vouchers purchased during the promotion but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits."

So far the August and October promotions have worked and the T&C's read the same so one would presume it still applies in the similar manner. But a potentially inconsistent application of the rules may be the only constant factor here... o_O

Unless there's some sort of conclusive evidence in advance of how Qantas will interpret their T&Cs this time, I guess someone will offer to be a guinea pig and we'll know for sure soon. But I also assume that the safest approach is to redeem any gift vouchers before the 22nd of February.

In the past I've bought and banked gift voucher as I wasn't sure about my travel plans at the time of the DSC offer. But if I book before the 22nd this time I guess there would still be a benefit of buying and redeeming a gift voucher, ie the saving in credit card charges?

Anyone else notice the fine print that says Premium cabin bonus status credits are based on the flexible economy rate? Hence the front page of this article and its status credit runs are all wrong?

Can you book using AMEX travel credit and still get the double status credits? Do they count as a travel agent?

Can't see anything like that stated anywhere?

Yes.

I think you are thinking of the status bonus for the points you earn from flying, which is not a promotion, but a regular thing, and quite a different thing to bonus status credits promotion.

Newbie question here - looking at booking CGK-SYD-MEL business return during double credit status window - when i go to book on Qantas site (after registering) it only shows normal amount of status credits per flight - 160 to 180 - is this normal - should the double status credits show or is it normal that they are just added later (I have received the email which says I am registered) .... just wanted to be sure before I committed!!! Thanks for any help :)

The site shows standard SCs. DSCs usually get credited 2-3 days after flying though the T&Cs do state to allow some weeks for them to post and the early flights in the flying window usually take longer to post than later ones.

Has the Commonwealth purposes exclusion been in previous promotions? Have always got them before

My understanding is that before the last DSC, it was open to commonwealth government employees, and thst this exclusion was added for the first time last time .

There's a more detailed statement made by Qantas this time in the FAQs on the registration page:

Are Qantas Flight vouchers eligible for this offer?
Qantas Flight vouchers purchased and redeemed for an eligible flight booking made during the promotion will earn double Status Credits. Flight Vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking (for flights that are not booked or travelled within the booking or travel period dates), will not earn double Status Credits.

Obviously your mileage may vary with GVs. However, the T&Cs are the same as last time and last time they worked. They may have changed it this time around (internally for the system to recognise). Use it at your own risk IMO.

and "Flight Vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking (for flights that are not booked or travelled within the booking or travel period dates), will not earn double Status Credits." reads to me that they are saying that if one buys a GV during the booking period and redeems during the travel period as in the past should be OK.

It's all in the semantics and wording, and QF have been terrible for years with this. eg: they mention in the T&C "Promotion Period" but never explicitly define it. Is it the booking window (ie: 18-22 Feb?) is it the Travel period? (25Feb-31Aug)? or is it the whole period ot the promo? Clearly it's not the whole period of 18Feb-31Aug, since travel must be 25Feb-31Aug.

It would be far measier if they defined phrases correctly in their T&C.

but anyway I think we all know that this will work or not work as in last year... I am sure starting next week people can report success or not.

Personally, I think it will work per the above. However I'm not using as I don't need any more SC before 31Aug.

It had been explained that a PNR was set up for each GV on the day of purchase, and that as a result, a ‘shell booking’ had been made.

The key point was the buying date on the GV HAD been used to determine if in or out.

And that this buying date didn’t update when a pair of cities was added for a date on which the flying actually happened.

As long as the buying date was inside the booking period, and the flying date was inside the ANNOUNCED promotional period, (in this case 25 Feb to 31 Aug), then this triggered the awarding of DSC.

Now, the only question remaining was whether the IT work experience students had been able to make the original date updateable. Feedback from members across a number of different DSC campaigns suggests upto now, that’s not been achievable.....

It stands to reason GVs bought in the buying period will trigger DSC regardless of when the actual flight is booked.....

I’m sure soon enough we will find out

That is indeed the crux of the matter. I just thought it was interesting that Qantas decided to highlight the use of gift vouchers more explicitly this time round in the FAQs, even if the T&Cs themselves have largely stayed the same from previous offers.
