Premium passengers using economy check in

On QF in MEL, PER, ADL and my home base CBR I pretty much go straight to the Y line for check-in. More staff. They never call premium pax first. Total waste of priority.

The only place I recall staff calling priority pax first was BNE - and this is now irrelevant with the new check-in area.

The only thing to be aware of when using economy check in when entitled to premium is the staff may not appropriately document/tag your bags or provide express / priority documentation etc. unless you proactively ensure it. Watch carefully.

Not tagging my bag priority is a benefit (especially flying into MEL).

I'm not sure it makes any difference

In places like CNS and PER I have had the check-in agents at Y desks give me First labels because they didn't have business tags. But I also have my doubts what this actually delivers.

Having had over 1200 Qantas flights, from experience I can assure you it can make a difference.
I agree. But probably not in the way you mean.Getting my BA gold recognition in LST so my bags were not tagged priority-second out in BNE.

To be honest, my experience with QF domestic is that bags can be first out or last out, priority tags or not. Its averaged about the middle in my experience. Internationally the result is often different.

First to be loaded in the hold (and last to be retrieved?)

First into hold and last to be retireved should mean they they are right on top of the pile and first off at the carousel. I think they load them last, put them on the baggage truck first, then by the time they get to the terminal they are right at the bottom and come out last :(

I have given up on priority cues in Australia... as well as on some OW flights across europe...

Shortest line always. But had check in staff do a double take when they saw my status. Suddenly all problems with bag size disappeared. With more reliance on self check in queues have stopped being an issue, even for international.

I go to the premium check in line. If i see that its longer than Y then I guess I would go to the Y line.

In the past, I have been at the premium line and found it didnt move because of the person in front haggling over something (wanted a upgrade) so when the Y desk next to it was free, I just walked up to that one from my spot in the J line.

I accidentally did this at SIN AP yesterday.

There is an early check in lounge and I was there about 1330 for my 1940 flight.
Pushed the appropriate buttons, got my ticket and waited. About 20 minutes later I was called and went up to check in.

A scan of the passport a couple of buttons pushed and my QF BP was printed. The person serving apologised for the delay to me a a J pax and said I could've used the premium SAT lounge next door to check in quickly.

I'd completely missed it.

Still no harm done.
