Tend to agree.

For me MMarsh & Finch don't play next test match. Burns & Maxwell come in.

Also, how is it that one of our premier fast bowlers has one of the most solid batting defences?? Speaks volumes really.

I’d have had Maxwell back in long before now, suspect it’s not on-field actions that appear to have him somewhat hamstrung with ‘those that count’.
Burns....yeah, seen him a few times now as well.

We just don’t have that much batting talent (cheats aside).
Zzzz.

Maxwell just doesn’t seem to fit a model they want.

Yeah, that was my point.
But he seems more likely to get some runs than some of the others that are either there already, or somehow next in line ahead of him.
Scoring runs, of course, should never be the main driver. Fitting in to the 'culture' of the main guys is much more important.
Oh. hang on...the 'culture'.....that's what we're trying to fix.
Hard to keep up.

JL: "MMarsh has been hitting them great in the net, he's a great guy, he got 1 score over 50 in his 4 shield matches, and he's a hell of a team man - I think we should bring him back for Melbourne".
Selector 2: "Agreed".
Selector 3 (very wishful thinking): "But what about his batting test average of 26 & bowling test average of 36".
Selector 2: "But he's a hell of a team man, majority rules, he's in".

Marsh bashing seems the in thing, and even booing when in a baggy green.
the twitterverse we live i I guess.
I think M Marsh can still be a good #6.
S Waugh took a long time to fill his skin at Test level.

While booing him is crass, I think it's more a reflection of the public showing disdain at a selection which (again) wasn't warranted or based on any sort of form.

No player ever, has performed so poorly at number 6 (which you are in the team to ultimately bat and roll the arm over economically where required) after 30 test's. Whether or not he can become a good #6 is not the issue, the issue is for him to be selected again at an international level he should have to warrant it with form at a domestic level. This never happens and is picked on 'potential', when history shows us at an international level there is very little.

After 30 Test's
Steve Waugh - 1584 runs @ 41.68
Mitch Marsh - 1200 runs @ 26.09

Not a fan of mob mentality.

lol, there's blokes batting ahead of him peforming worse.

That's great.

There's still no real justification for his continual selection with no form or performances to back it up, no matter how you look at it.

Okay you win mate, well done.
Theres a hundred better options.

Well maybe not a hundred, but there's certainly a few.

Certainly.
A few.
With runs on the board.
Undeniable.
With multiple centuries in the last Ashes series even.
Oh, that doesn't count.
Oops.

There's one who leaps off the page, but he's not the golden boy for whatever resson.

Then, the others can't get actually get a go, because there's a player who has the worst ever average for a recognised batsmen who keeps getting a run.

Oops.

He batted well in a few innings of the Ashes, kudos and well done. Then he goes back and turns in his usual returns producing a paultry total of 206 runs @ 17 from his next 6 tests (not including another first innings failure here). On the back if those abject failures, he does nothing in shield with 1 decent innings from 4 matches, yet get's another go.

If 26 after 30 tests is the new yard stick for our #6, we're in even more of a mess then I thought.

Yes, has batted well for 2 Ashes tons. Runs on the board. Forgotten by the online mob mentality. Lord of the Flies, frenzy, lol.
Can’t be in much more of a mess....not sure what you’ve been watching.
Still not sure what your solutions are.....who is your failsafe #6, the messiah. I’m sure you have a list? Maybe they can go 3,4,5 as well.
We need help!!

This is the problem when you take into consideration series such as previous Ashes where we bullied England. Quite easy for anyone to score runs and inflate their averages.

Some have had way too many chances. Maxwell should have had a run in at least one of the past 4 tests.

Ah yeah, that was why I clicked Agree on your post  About Maxwell that is, not Marsh.

Yes, but your posts constantly cheer him on when really his performances aren’t deserving. So I have to wonder why you are such a fan throughout this thread.

Urgh, no it isn't forgot. After he scored those runs people were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt that he may have changed a corner, his technique even looked a little different where he was a lot tighter in his set-up. Then what happened, he went back to the way of old as I said, producing a paltry total of 206 runs @ 17 from his next 6 tests. Let's also include your 'runs on the board' centuries into that mix, his 11 test matches in 2017 & 2018 have produced a terrible 570 runs @ 28.5 - 'runs on the board' need to be consistent and decent - these return are very far from it.

Runs on the board needs to be consistent, as has previously been shown, unfortunately these centuries are complete outliers in his international form. He needs to come back to shield and pile on runs to justify selection after his poor performances, yet he doesn't and still get's picked. It is not a 'mob mentality' as you so like to put it, it is Australian cricket fans showing their disdain at a player being selected when his form and figures do not warrant it.

There's no failsafe or messiah #6, but you seem to miss the point completely.

Other players haven't even been given an opportunity because they continue to select a proven consistent non-performer, that is the issue the public take aim at, and it is completely justified (the booing is crass though).

Here's a list of possible #6 replacement, probably not the messiah by any stretch, but if they're given even half the opportunity a non-performing MMarsh is continually provided, they could possibly succeed.

Glenn Maxwell (obvious choice) - he got 4 test's in 2017 producing 259 runs @ 37 (all in Asia), then he's averaged 49 in the last 2 shield season's to date (compared to MMarsh 38) & his bowling is very econmical.
Michael Neser (left field if you want more of a bowler who can bat) - averaging 52 in the current shield season and is a better bowler then MMarsh.

Then there's the argument if we even need an all-rounder as Travis Head bowls is very serviceable for a 5th bowling option, so there's a few batsmen who have performed better.
