In other threads it has been stated that Malaysia airlines does not recognise elite status of other airlines, even though on the Oneworld alliance, why bother being in it?

So I have booked online using my Qantas FFN emerald identificion, paid for my seat allocation, will remember to buy some snacks to take with me on the flight, no problem.

What about luggage allowance, does this airline give the same checked in allowance as other One world carriers, or is it dependant on class of travel?

Yes, I realise that I don’t have to travel with this airline but it is the only one with a point to point direct flight, except for a 1 hour change of aircraft.

You will get all published benefits of OneWorld Emerald, except preferred seating, so you get an extra 20kg of luggage allowance over your ticketed allowance, lounge access etc. Not sure why you need to take snacks with you as MH is full service (except short/domestic flights).

After a call to Malaysiaairlines I am now in the picture.

It seems that when I made the booking and entered my QFF number and said number was shown on my ticketing, in big bold letters, that the system did not recognise the forementioned details.

So the consultant suggested that next time I make a reservation that I should call them to make sure that my details were entered into the system properly, go figure.

I did not get a refund for the seat allocation but did get extra baggage allowance.

Yes I will be taking snacks onboard with me, just a precautionary measure you see.

Perhaps, your QFF# was not entered correctly in the beginning? (ie: spaces, name not matching 100% etc..)
You can check if your QFF# is entered correctly by obtaining your MH PNR and entering it into manage my booking on the QANTAS website (note: NOT while logged in via 'my bookings)

Seat selection for standard seats (ie: not exit rows) is free for ALL Oneworld Emerald members. If you had paid for a standard seat - I would call back and demand a refund. Alternatively, ask to be moved to an exit row which otherwise would be chargeable.

Oneworld has mandated requirements for member airlines, and one such clause is that you can't charge another FFP# for a service if you offer the same service to your own members at that equivalent tier for free. So, for example - MH Enrich Platinum (Emerald) members could choose Row 1 on the A350's when no First Class was sold. This by virtue of a Oneworld requirement - flows over to all Oneworld Emerald members. However, if MH were to charge their own Platinum members for these seat selections, then MH could charge other Oneworld Emerald members too.

Does this then follow that BA cannot charge a QFF WP for seat allocations?

Apology for hijacking this thread, as i dont want to create a new one.. since my situation is similar but only Ruby :)

Just redeemed business class ticket from SIN - KUL but im only Qantas Silver (Ruby) didnt managed to get to Gold ontime due to the DSC 6 weeks waiting period, can i confirm the baggage allowance ? Checked MH website and stated no extra allowance for Ruby, but when i added the PNR in my Qantas account, noticed the baggage is 50kg.

SIN will be my transit, as i will be travelling from MEL-SIN on a Qantas business reward flight and im planning to 'intercept' the baggage at Changi without going thru custom but need to ensure my baggage allowance are similar for both flights (packing a lot of christmas presents).

MEL - SIN - 52kg
SIN - KUL - 40kg or 50kg ??

Thanks...

I've had problems before with MH where my QF FF number is only recognised when the leading zeroes are entered.

Generally, airlines offer their equivalent Silver tier extra baggage allowance. Oneworld Ruby does not by default have the extra allowance.

On MH as a QF Silver on an international flight in business, you would have the standard 40kg.
If you are lucky, the ticket staff may be confused and consider you Enrich Silver, which is 40kg + 5kg.

thanks for your prompt reply, 40kg should be the allowance :-( Not sure if im intercepting the baggage at Changi, will they check the weight, since it wont be going thru normal check-in..

On the flight that I have mentioned I received an email from Malaysia airlines offering me the chance to get upgraded to business class for a fee of my choosing, to which I did putting the bare minimum thinking that if they accept it no problem, just a gamble.

The airline did accept my offer and so I did the trip from Bali >KL> Manila in business class.

The status credits given to me for this trip was zero, zilch, nothing because I had not booked business class to start with.

My solution to this is just to never set foot on one of the aircraft ever again, problem solved.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It’s not unusual for upgraded fares to earn at the original earn rate, so this was going to be a problem if you got upgraded or not.

If you feel you’ve been dudded out of points here, check what your original fare bucket was against the airline earn table and that will give you an answer as to if it was due to earn or not.

It's quite possible, if not probable, your original economy fare was ticketed in a selling class that wouldn't have earned for QF Frequent Flyer. Upgraded fares usually earn at the original level

Your problem is with QANTAS LOYALTY for not giving credit for the underlying fare class.
Your upgrade was exactly that - a one-class upgrade. The difference between your original ticket + upgrade bid, would still be WELL short of what an outright business class ticket would otherwise have cost. It's the same as if you had used points to upgrade with QF, that you would receive points/status credits for the original ticket.

Bad solution! This is what QFF want.

It is not MH's fault, it's Qantas.

If your original booking was in an earning fare category, then you should be chasing it.
