Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Monday 10th of Dec sees QF38 SIN-MEL 23 40 service depart until 6 20, arrival is predicted around 4 26, 371 min behind (VH-EBN). Interestingly QF37 arrived to SIN on time.
 
Continuing today, QF127 SYD-HKG 9 30 service (VH-OQJ) departed until 11 13, arrival is suggested around 17 05, 75 late.
QF840 SYD-DRW 10 10 flight (VH-VXI) took off until 11 33, arrival is predicted at 14 20, 70 tardy.
QF790 SYD-ASP 10 15 departure (VH-VXG) left until 11 10, arrival is suggested at 12 39, 44 behind.
QF581 SYD-PER 10 25 service (VH-EBF) departed at 11 28, it has a revised arrival at 13 10, 50 tardy.

QF1473 SYD-CBR 10 45 service was cancelled, consequently, QF1474 CBR-SYD 12 05 was also cancelled.

QF2109 CFS-SYD 13 05 service departed until 14 09, arrival is suggested at 3 14, 54 tardy.

Sunday’s 9/12 QF4 HNL - SYD 744 (VHA-OEE) service has been delayed by 24hrs+ due with a faulty No 2 engine. It will now depart Honolulu on Monday 10/12 at 1055 arriving into Sydney on the 11/12 at 1755 - 24hrs 45mins late.
 
QF12 transpacific LAX-SYD
Everyone on board but the pilots decided to take on some extra fuel at the last minute

Caused by having to reboot flight computers resulting in inability to enter weights data and final fuel plus apparently planning slightly faster transpacific transit

Will take off just a few later. Always interesting to see the machinations that go on behind the scenes that potentially could add a bit here and a bit there to elapsed time

Edit: Pushed back from gate 150 at 22:58 so not officially delayed as it’s less than 30min out

The BA A380 next door looks quite dirty. Black trickle marks from the Windows.

Also on Monday 10 December 2018, QF19 departed SYD at 1323, 58 minutes tardy. MNL arrival is estimated as 1823 hours, 53 late.

QF63, the 1135 hours late morning B744 for the long SYD to JNB flight pushed back only 12 late but arrival at 1720 will be 45 minutes late.

I would suggest the number being cancelled rather than 'delayed' may have something to do with light early December loads.

serfty, wouldn't many businessmen and women be flying around to finalise their work prior to Christmas and the accompanying school hols? And there must also be 'schoolies' and university students who have finished for the year to add to demand.

On Tuesday 11 December, B744 VH-OEH on QF74 from SFO to SYD is arriving at 0650, 40 minutes late.

The HKG down to SYD QF128 has A388 VH-OQJ and should be at its destination gate at about 0737 hours, 42 minutes behind the timetable.

The PER to SYD QF574 has A332 VH-EBM and should arrive at 0720, 55 late.

When you live in an environment in which weekends don’t exist, Mondayitis isn’t a thing. I’d be looking elsewhere for the reasons for the cancellations.

You may be correct for these - we need the evidence - but given 'Mondayitis' (and accompanying "sickies" on Fridays or even some weekends) on not just Sydney Trains as Quickstatus suggested but also most surface transport operators in Australia, it's logical it's also a problem in the airline sector.

Some surface transport (such as Metro in Melbourne) that operates in its case 24 hours due to Friday and Saturday all night operation is even more a 24 hour operation than the airlines. No SYD, ADL or other Australian airport curfews with surface passenger modes.

Weekends exist for the staff member's families, which seems to be a key reason sickies are taken. Airline staff have families whose children want to be taken on excursions or to play sport at the weekend.

I believe it is considered delayed although the below applies to domestic OTP (although i believe OAG use a similar definition).

QF12 arrival today:

The flight deck mentioned that they had “made up most of the delay” by flying faster, but ATC put them into a 2 circuit hold west of Singleton. As a result was 35 minutes late at the gate at 0905am instead of 0830.

QF9 MEL-PER (B789 VH-ZNB) departed 100 minutes late and won’t arrive until 1955 (105 minutes late). I’m assuming this will then delay the PER-LHR leg which is listed as a 2135 departure.

QF94 LAX-MEL (A388 VH-OCQ) departed 96 minutes late and isn’t expected to arrive until 1055 tomorrow morning (65 minutes late)

To clarify the second sentence, QF9 at this time of year is timetabled to depart PER at 1940. It is indeed expected to commence pushing back at 2135 for a Wednesday 12 December estimated LHR arrival at 0705, two hours behind schedule.

The FR24 website increasingly has a misleading habit when flights are running late of altering the arrival time to give the impression that it is the normal scheduled time. It's anything but tonight in Perth!

The estimated arrival for QF9 tonight in PER has become 2001 hours. I'm using the QF website time of 1956 but as always adding five minutes because the website shows a 'touchdown' time not an 'at gate' time.

I can vouch for this. Reason was storm in area so tarmac was cleared. Bumpy flight out, and preparing cabin 20mins from landing had the crew get 1/4 way through handing out a sandwich or chips, and no drinks. Landed at 20.05.
