I don't often see legacy airlines advertising one way fares.

PR has J one way fares available from MEL/SYD/BNE for as low as A$1559 in J class.

Return J fares to HKG are cheaper per sector, coming in from A$2629 return.

Many other fares - J, W and Y - are available to destinations in mainland China, TPE, BKK, GUM, LAX and numerous Japanese destinations from A$429 (return MEL - PEK in Y) upwards. Some return J fares to other destinations are cheaper than the one to HKG.

Typically the aircraft used is a refurbished (younger than QF) A333 with flat beds 1-2-1 configuration MEL - MNL, although lately PR's new A359s have appeared.

SYD can be either an A333 or smaller, single aisle new A321neo, but again, the A359 has made at least one appearance.

BNE is always a new A321neo,. Like the other aircraft it has flat beds, but in its case given it's a narrowbody, it's a less attractive 2-2 configuration.

Aircraft used across to HKG will vary but some have flat beds, although from and to MNL it is a very short sector.

The aircraft lounge used in MEL is SQ. In MNL it is the poor PR one (food and one shower only, plus unrefurbished toilets leaves much to be desired).

Punctuality is pretty good and the airline is safe (at least in the last decade, and beyond). Food onboard seems fine but I wouldn't claim to have specialist knowledge.

There are some blackout dates. These deals ex and to MEL are only available on PR207/PR208, not the traditional day up and overnight back PR209/PR210. Weekend surcharge ex SYD of A$50 applies (strange).

Other attractive fares to Japan and London Heathrow are available.

Book until 15 December 2018 via the PR website.

Great prices and a pretty decent product. Have flown with them before and would definitely do so again but the lack of a decent loyalty program hurts. Hopefully the talks of PR joining one of the big alliances comes to fruition.

All true, but the last point has been talked about for ages and nothing happens.

If NH or someone else took a 40 per cent interest in PR financially, that might change, but maybe no one wants to buy any stake in this airline. Oil price fluctuations may put off some.

I know one or two who have used the FF program Mabuhay Miles for redemptions ex Oz and that's been OK. They tend to have 50 per cent off the points cost of redemptions once or twice a year so if a member, that's when to swoop.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I did read somewhere a few months ago that their CEO has claimed they would be in an alliance within 2 years and that talks were underway. Practically OW looks a good fit but with CZ leaving SkyTeam perhaps there is an opening there
