Hello

I have a code-share flight with Cathay pacific departure out from Australia to HK and from there i catch my airline that i booked with.

I booked my tickets online from a different European aircraft.. But it had Cathay pacific as a code-share because the other airline doesn't go to Australia.

However.. I can log into the airline i go with but also i can log into cathay pacific website.
I can see a live seats map of the aircraft im going with
It is a A350-900 Cathay pacific departing at midnight (must be a popular aircraft for everybody at that time)

So there are about 14 seats free and the rest of the aircraft has a large X on every seat.

So. I was on seat 59 which is against the wall and one that i seriously do not want... I have a partner and me and her must stick together side by side.

So since there is 14 seats free that i can see i try to say lets change our seat to 60... when i click save it kind of rejected and ever since i dont have a seat... Now i try to select any other free seats that is showing and all of them will reject... and now apparently we dont have a seats for me and my partner even if... i tried to go back to where i was seating number at 59... it doesn't work anymore... Which means we both dont have a preserve seat anymore....

I have booked this tickets with my original airline im going with months ago.. im aware im flying out with CX.

I have called My airline im going with and also i have called a number of times CX on the telephone i want a seat to lock it in.. they say im sorry its rules i cant its code-share your with... then this and that.. and telling me to come to the page 48 hours (2 days before departure) on the Cathay pacific website to select your seats......

The airline im going with that i paid for doesnt aloud me to select seats because they are not Cathay pacific.. but if i go to Cathay pacific website i can see the live map and looks like you can select but when i do select and save it will get rejected.

So the whole thing worries me because i have this trip just after Christmas.... And im worried that since there are currently 14 seats for free to select.... they are slowly filling up passengers as i come back a few times a week to check it out just to monitor how these seats are filling up... So what happens now?

What happens if i lets say check in to select seats 2 days before departure since you can do that on Cathay pacific website... what happens if all of them 14 current free seats are no longer available and then there are every seats with a X on it... then what happens to me and my partner we are suppose to go on this aircraft? Does this mean we will lose no seat and unable to hope on this aircraft?? which will be rather unusual if that was to happen.

I try to explain the ladies at CX over the phone they just dont seem to be very helpful... just makes no sense..

Remember that every aircraft has its own rules.. different rules for seats and so on.

So going back to the seat question... if 2 days before departure there are no sign of seats then how am i suppose to get on this plane that i booked for ? (i booked this on a different airline - it just had Cathay pacific as code-share) so does this mean by the time i arrive at the airport they will unable to put us in the plane and put us on a diferent time ? Which means the other airline im going with that i paid for will also be total effected and a waste of expensive money.

Oh by the way this is for Economy passenger me and my partner only.

So currently im just worried... Because we dont seem to have a seat locked in.... And worried that by the time it gets closer to time... How do i know there will still be 2 seats for us? how do i know that and where exactly.... Its rather unfair and it just worries me because it is a very expensive trip and dont want Cathay pacific to somehow tell me (im sorry we dont have 2 seats for u people because the airline is full already) but i dont no..

I booked my airline trip at least 8 months back... i like to get things organised in advance.. Its only Cathay pacific this code-share that doesn't even let me select a seat..

I could of prob just not muck around selecting a seat because we had a seat on seat 59 locked in but a terrible seat.... and apparently i dont have no seat locked in.. Its just makes no sense and unfair go

Always wanted to get on this Cx aircraft its just the stupid rules about unable to select locked in a seat.

Now i dont no what to expect..... And even if i get to the airport they will maybe say (im sorry the aircraft is full there no seat for you or your partner... Now if that was to be the case... then CX needs to organised and more professional on what they are doing..., they need to count how many people have booked this time aircraft on that particular date.... not just whatever... and then expect no seat when you arrive.. for something i paid for well in advance.

The aircraft im going with from HK to Europe are good understanding people but they tell me try 24hours on that Cathay pacific website to check in a seat or just call them and i told them that i already did but they not very helpful with my question.... but all they say is check in 2 days before departure..

but my conclusion is that 2 days before departure may as well be too late... because what if there are no seats ? what if there was only 1 seat available.. then how will my partner be seating at or no seat for her? its why i wish to understand the rules about this with Cathay pacific.... its just total unfair.

Anyhow.. i thought i will give tis a go and hopefully someone will help me what they think.. Only if you understand Cathay pacific airline.

P.S this is a days after christmas... so i dont no how busy this aircraft will be by then... And if it gets full.. then where will our seats be if its not been locked in yet.. I mean christmas is just near the corner now... not long.. So... and yet we dont have no locked in seats.. What to expect now?

I also enjoy thsi forum so im very new and i hope i get posts from nice people here who can answer my full question. thank you

Thank you.

P.S even if i come back 2 days before depture on the Cathay Pacific website... Doesn't mean there will be more open seats available to select. I wouldn't no. But currently it just shows 14 seats to select... but are slowly filling up.

I dont care if i must paid a litle bit for our seats or not. Just need our seats.. But how do we really know that 2 days before departure you can select seat with no (rejections) and if so how do we know there will be more seats open? i mean i thought i see what is available now since its showing 14 seats available... doesn't mean that 2 days before departure the airline is going to display more open seats to select.. how do i know that?

How bookings are all: N
Booked it with a european airline. Cx is just a codeshare that helps us get to HK
Its a 350-900 aircraft. Hope Cx have not forgotten us by the time we arrive at the airport in relation to the seats...

Welcome to AFF :).

From what I understand, you have a flight booked on a CX plane, but it's under a codeshare. What airline is the codeshare? And what is the fare class code you booked under ( it will be a letter like Y, X, Q etc). If to don't know it, call and ask the airline, ( not CX) as it may be material to your issue. If you do call, ask them if that fare class allows you to select seats in advance, or even if you can pay to select seats.

It's all Under N
I did mentioned that I have called Cathay pacific and they couldn't add me a seat because such rules. They all say come to the website 2 days before departure where u can then select a seat.

But please read what I said because it is important to know.

I also called my airline they cant help me add a seat they get the same rejection as I do on Cathay Pacific website.

Only worried that there might not have seat for both of us by the time we get to the airport.. even tho they say select seat 2 days before departure but that may as well be a bit too late by then if there was no more seats by then. Then what do u do. Do they say will out u on the next aircraft ? Remember I paid this month a ago with a European airline. It just has cx in the booking departing from australia to hk

Departing at midnight after Christmas. It's just seems strange not to have a seat yet. What if all the seats are then all taken and then we dont have ours ? That's the problem.

The info seems to be here. N-class needs to be paid for with the 'Reserve your seat' feature:

Reserve a seat in advance | Cathay Pacific

Which mentions:

Please note that we are progressively rolling out 'Reserve your seat', and therefore this service may not yet be available for your flight.

I think CX is suggesting to wait until on-line check-in open, 48 hours before departure.

Yes but when I called cx they cant add me a seat and nothing about pay a seat. So? I guess I'll have to wait 2 days before departure but then like I said what if there won't be seats for us by then ?

Currently I can see 14 Seats to select it seems free I dont see nothing about pay. But regardless I keep trying to select the Seats it rejects it. And no seat yet.

So regardless I call they cant help. Maybe they can 2 days before departure... but that's all

CX do state that "Reserve your seat" is not yet available on all flights. But you could try specifically mentioning it to them that it's what you are wanting.

At 48 hours before departure, you can check-in on-line and have a cost-free seat selection.

Wouldn't that be a bit too late to select a seat 2 days before departure? Only 14 Seata I can see are open and available but of course I get rejected when I select any . By 2 days before departure how do I know these 14 Seats are then taken or opened ? 2 weeks ago there was 20 Seats. Today 14 left... u get the idea

Just because you can only see 14 seats available for selection, it doesn't mean that they are the last available seats on your flight.

What is the flight number?

If the "Reserve your seat" feature isn't available and you don't have oneworld ruby status or above, there's probably not much you can do. It would be expensive to change your booking class.

But during the 48 hour check-in time period, seats can become available as upgrades are processed, pax move their seats etc. And at the airport, at the gate and even on-board adjustments can be done.

By the way, when did you last check with CX? According to their website:

We are progressively rolling out 'Reserve your seat' for purchase in Economy class across our routes. Currently, it is available on flights between Hong Kong and Manchester, Chicago, and Perth. For all other destinations below, booking is now available for travel on or after 25 October 2018.
So it's fairly new.

I called cx 2 months ago and last month and now again just yesterday.. but regardless it's still the same rules. To wait 2 days before departure. Fine if I can select seats 2 days before departure. But if incase there are no seats showing for me then what do u do.. and also we want to stay together. And what is this new rollout thing u say ?

I had a bit of a play on CX's booking site. For MEL-HKG flights. On any date I selected in 2019, the cheapest booking classes O, N and Q only allowed the "extra-legroom" seats to be available for purchase. All other "regular" seats showed as "unavailable" on the seat maps. But clearly most are still unsold.

The number of "extra-legroom" seats available varied according to aircraft type. I think it's just CX's system at the moment.

Hi thanks for that message. Well like I said I didn't booked it from Cathay Pacific. But booked it from the rest of my booking is European airline. It's just that australia to hk had cx in the booking. But regardless by phoning cc they all said you cant seect seat because such and such of codeshare.. so on I guess. They say 2 days before departure you can then select seats. Now tell me.. is this normal regulation without having a seat on this airline yet ? It only worried me that's all. Just ideas that what if cx has forgotten me to have a seat for both of us on that date. And even if you ask me what other airline is and number.. you will also get the same I info as what cx has told me on the phone.

1: since there are 14 seats available as I can see the live map Cathay Pacific website as u log in with my reference number. And since I cant lock it in.. but it clearly shows 14 seats available to select then what if all of them 14 seats are then taken 2 days before departure? Then I have no options to find a seat ecause every seat might show X. Or maybe 1 search but then nothing for my partner. Only an example.

2: 2 days before departure I was told I can select seats. Does this mean more open seats will show up or only what I see currently which is 14 seats?

3: what is this new rollout thing you people talking about ?

I won't call cx again they always say the same stuff but poor in my questions.. considering cx is a popular airline for Asia....

Also like I said I said i see no where were it says pay to preserve seats.. all I see when I click select seats is jsit the map back group of the plane between the wall 59 up to a few seats back are all available and free but they cant be locked in when I try to save it many times. Considering about this new rollout ?

All tickets even my airline I would be going from Europe are all under N for each flight on economy.

Anyways I was just curious about this select avatar that's all was only worried.

And last but still havent got a reply at this question: what if I get to the airport and let's say there was no seats for me to select or it was still rejected.. and then I went to the airport... and then they say sorry our flight is all full you missed out go int he next flight.. is that possible?

Remember I paid 8 months for this trip. Booked it with a European airline that has codeshare with cx for the departure only.

It would had been nice if cx xould be more organised with the seats fr every body... and since we dont have seats. Does this mean we don't have a chance to be on this aircraft ? Its a350 cx

Again thanks to everybody. Always good to know things.
