Hi
I recently posted about going to Noumea and staying at Le Meridien. We did, had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We booked our flights oddly ..ie Mr booked his flight through Amex travel credit which only allowed a Qantas flight.
I booked myself thru my Amex travel credit which allowed any airline. I chose Air Calin as it was $100 cheaper than Qantas (same plane-code share).
I had been itching to upgrade us to business but I couldn't see how to upgrade myself on Air Calin (apparently you have to be sent an email).
Anyway, get to airport print out pass and I am 1A. Upgraded for free by Air Calin. (yay!)
Mr, who is silver QFF and I went to Qantas sales desk to get an upgrade for him. Couldn't as Qantas had no capacity left.
On board as the seat next to me was empty (five empty seats in business) I asked if Mr could join me up front. No luck, was told upgrades only managed from ground!
I did wave to Mr as he was in 5F. However he maintained later that no eye contact allowed between classes.
Great trip, but what a conundrum with the upgrade. We would have happily paid (up to about $500) to have Qantas upgrade Mr for the flight.
Suggestions on how to get around this for anyone else in same situ?
