Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Serrat 4 tooth '17…. ( sorry thats a sheepish term.. been channeling steady..)… er fous toothe.. er Fourre-tout.. that it !!

The review is all a bit academic as Serrat bask in the complete disposal of almost all their '17 wines… amazing success

An eclectic mixture :
50 buckets of Barbera
33 buckets of Malbec
7 Buckets of Pinot Noir
10 Buckets of Nebbiolo
7 Buckets of Grenache Noir = 960 Bottles ( 2 of which were sold to moi .. along with 6 x 17 pinot ….)

On opening was almost banal.. no real signature and tending towards plonkishness (tho it clearly was not)
Second half of the bottle tonight was developing nicely ….which left me wondering…... what if ?

The answer is that wot if will have to wait as I only have one more (sob) and will lay it down somewhere really quiet for a future reprise
It's an interesting one, isnt it? Its like each mouthful reveals a different component.

Tried this out tonight... quite a nice flavour.. a little sharp initially.. 5 - 10 yrs time I think would be divine.. 17% Alcohol

Read an article and saw it.. gets great reviews on vivino etc and for about $38, no complaints at all....

This is not what I have in mind.

Pour a glass and waited 3 hours, the sourness smell quite strong on the glass at first, still tight on the first sip, dark fruit or maybe even not fruit at all, I’m going to use “Chinese medicine” to describe the first mouthful, not disgusting ,more like tea, I do like tea so this is “my cup of tea”. Interesting to see how this turns out in ten years time.

Opened the last bottle tonight purchased on VM few years ago. 15.2% full bodied yet smooth drop, aged very well and I’m sure will become even better over time.
Will definitely buy again if it goes on sale.

Nice and quite weekend ,opened this 98 Black label cab, pour to my glass for 20 mins. Smells like greens, grass, herbs, good smooth mouthful ,liquorice and didn’t notice much oak, finish is a bit soft. Cork is good.

A lazy afternoon at home with very good friends from the Gold Coast and he enjoys partaking from my cellar.

So we thought we drink these (along with 2 bottles of sparking from Australia) with our wives

Well he trumped me with what he bought (in the middle).

After the first two (started with the Heemskirk Pinot Noir and then the Chateau Franc Couplet) we thought we’d insert this one:

So with 2 hours before an early dinner, we decided to decant the Basket Press. Will post our tasting notes

Okay, I'll admit to being fairly dusty last night after our friends left at 7pm (so an 8-hour session). Had to do the clean up ad it was a slow process. Don't need to drink much red this week . Thankful for lots of cheese, biscuits and lunch/dinner (followed by water, Berocca's and a Panadeine.

WOTN was definitely the Rockfords, decanted for 3 hours - after an initial sip before decanting we both knew it was already smooth. 94 on my ratings.

Surprisingly the Heemskerk was close behind, even with no decanting. 92/100

Found this hiding in a different place, might as well open it, 2011 is not a bad vintage in the hunter. Still quite fresh and young ,fruit is still in a primary phase,red/blue berries with little oak,light/medium bodied. Quite like this wine ,probably one of the better ones from hunter linesman for me.

Following a milestone birthday I’ve quite taken to (red) wine, and as a newbie to the thread/forum I’m hoping to taste some of the (many) suggestions made in the 430 pages here (particularly Rockford, yay for living in Adelaide!)

I greatly appreciate the wisdom offered and will hopefully post some pics worthy of the thread someday when I progress beyond sub-$30 quaffers :)
