Can I do this?

As luck would have it our flight next week ADL - MEL - DPS has hit a hitch as MrP now needs to be in Melbourne the night before until quite late. He can make the last flight out to Adelaide that night but then catches an 11 am flight back to MEL the next day. Seems kinda redundant.

There doesn’t seem to be an option to separate the passengers in our booking. My flights will stay the same but all we want to do is unhitch his ADL - Mel sector and keep the MEL - DPS one.

So before I tackle the phone line, is it possible to do this without creating a real mess? The flights will also credit under a DSC and I need the credits more than him so I plan on keeping my PNR and likely he will have to ditch his. The fares weren’t sale fares etc but normal business class ones. I don’t mind if there is a fee to change his as we would have to pay his fare back from Mel the night before anyway.

Thoughts? Tips?

You should be able to have the pax split into separate bookings, but youd have to be very specific about keeping the original PNR and Im not sure how that would work.

I’m hoping that as my flights stay the same as booked I can keep it.

I was once able to split a booking, cancel my friend's half altogether, retain my half with same PNR and as a credit voucher. When I later used the voucher the PNR stuck and DSCs were earned without needing manual intervention.

Obviously all done on the phone and took time to explain, but it worked.

Not quite your scenario I know, but would seem a positive sign?

I’ve checked and if I needed to cancel and rebook MrP’s flight it’s currently on sale.

So made the call today after definite go ahead from MrP. Means he now has to pack tomorrow for UK trip as well as the business work in Melbourne and remember the passport. He can leave work stuff in our apartment as he will be back there the day after he gets back. Cost came to just a bit more than having to buy the fare back from Melbourne on the Thursday night so not too bad an outcome. And my PNR didn’t change so DSC from a non delayed booking is still in play. He doesn’t need the DSC so much. Premium line was very helpful.

Also means he isn’t flying when the first footy final is on on the Thursday night and he can do a bit of work on the Friday morning before meeting up with me at the F lounge in Melbourne in the afternoon. As WP he can use the First area to check luggage. And still sitting together on the DPS flight.
