Both the SPG and Marriott emails on Friday about the new elite levels/benefits had this asterisk:
*Elite tier will be based on the status earned, not status granted via linking and status matching.

So do we think that sounds like Amex Platinum will go to Marriott Gold Elite as of 1 August?

Occasionally timeshares are worthwhile cove.We bought into the Hilton Club NYC in Feb 2002-5 months after 9/11.After 13 years membership they offered us 60% more than we paid to buy as out.Offer accepted.

Well done drron.
My brother has one in Noosa.
I don’t have any.
The new Marriott is the largest Hotel chain now in the world.
The chap today said transfer your SPG points over to Marriott as soon as you can. Must mean there is a significant change pending which will be a devaluation.

There’s no need to transfer. All your points will automatically transfer when they merge in August. They are essentially the same.

There is some bonus (maybe) to transfer now. I am with Marriott whereas my son is a SPG player.

The ratio is 3 Marriott for every 1 SPG.
That won’t be changing until they all become Marriott in August.

Redemption rates will be changing though, some up and some down. They haven’t announced all the new cats yet though. It will be a good idea to keep an eye out in the next couple of months to lock in some accomodation if the redemption rates for properties you are interested in are going up.

With Marriott not introducing the highest category until 2019 there will also be a window to book some high end properties at a lower rate.

@drron, wondering why they’d want to buy you out? A deal though by the sound of it.

Prices had gone through the roof in NYC and if they owned it there may have been a buyer at a higher price or using the extra time to sell a room may have been worth it.

Inreceived an email that the system is going down on 15th August inpreparation for the new programme launch on 18th. Need to get any redemptions in before then

Despite only being matched from Gold SPG (via Amex Plat), the new Marriott site is showing me as Platinum Elite (lounge access breakfast etc). If it sticks I'll be happy

Nothing has been combined yet. Probably a day or two more before they can implement the changes. My SPG and Marriott accounts still showing as previous.

Yes but I was "Gold' on Marriott previously

When I log in via SPG, I am a Gold Elite, when I log in via Marriott I am Platinum Elite. I got gold status in SPG via Amex.

I would not count on Platinum Elite status sticking around, its a temporary status until everything gets integrated. My lifetime Marriott nights is showing as 0 in Marriott but it is actually 21 days, so the merge/upgrade is not yet complete.

I think you'll have two separate accounts until you take steps to merge them. My understanding is that they won't auto merge accounts.

Same. And it looks as though the merge function won't be available for a still a few days.

On another note, my father received Silver elite - not sure why as he's never stayed at a Marriott property and only had SPG points from him and mum signing up to the DJ Amex card??

Hrmm... interesting to see how this elite status plays out. Have got a stay coming up in early September which Plat Elite would be beneficial for club access & better chance to upgrade.

When I logged into SPG tonight they issued me with a new membership number. The points were correct (x3) but the nights stay was showing as 38 instead of 40. I'd taken a screenshot of both SPG and Marriott accounts. I'll talk to them tomorrow, if the queues aren't too long.

I can see that I can combine SPG/Marriott accounts when I log into marriott.

Not sure I want to though and potentially downgrade my status that is currently listed with Marriott.

I'm Plat elite on both accounts now from previous Gold. Which by all accounts is just a new name for similar benefits. Lounge access and upgrades is a nice perk.
