Why is the QF EK alliance such a joke?

Specifically SCs, you can fly all sorts of tin pot QF partners and get SCs, but EK flights only get points, bizarre. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this? Also the fact that they won’t honour status unless you are allocating points to an account is really annoying if you are trying to transition between their FF programs... And then unless you are connecting to an international flight you can’t get SC off any EK code shared flights within Australia.

Because EK is not a OW alliance airline.

Because QF don’t actually want you to book with EK. They want you to book QF

Yes - that's the very simple answer. you don't get SCs with Westjet or Alaskan Airways either, notwithstanding you can get QF codes on some of their flights.

And then QF usually charge $100+~ extra for that "privilege," for the exact same flight/seat, only difference being it is a QF-ticket :)

and if you are booking with EK on EK metal and quote QFF number not only no SC''s but only get about a 1/3 of the points if you had booked through QF.

As mentioned earlier, Qantas want you to book through QF.

Thats the case for all non-One World alliance partners for QF. eg. you'll only get points for FJ operated flights (on FJ ticket) at the moment though it is a codeshare with QF. You'll need a QF ticket on the same flight to earn SC.

Last year I flew ADL-DXB- GLA and return DUB-DXB-ADL on EK metal booked though QF. Cost me an extra $10. Got to use the EK lounge in DXB with QF Club membership

Yeah couple of years back EK had a special, return SYD to AKL in F; better-half needed some SC, QF was selling a QF flight on the same metal for the same price; badda-bing-badda-boom, as a politician would say.
Mind you, after we bought our tickets there were no more at that price through QF while EK were still offering them. Either a different pool of sale tickets or QF were offering fewer.

Now I think about it though, QF don’t offer an equivalent service on that route. Even QF J is their domestic product trans-tasman innit?

It just seems strange that you have a heavily publicised published partnership where there are less benefits than flying “less prestigious” partners. I’m just whinging because after switching back to QF last year and nearly reaching platinum this year after a status run I’m going to be forced to fly EK and not allowed to codeshare because travel policy.... Which would bother me less if domestic flights could earn me tier miles. So I’ll be EK WP and miss QF SG resting on LTS, with little prospect of LTG for a decade...

You can only earn SCs if you are on a flight operated and marketed by Qantas, an airline owned by Qantas or a member of oneworld. EK is not owned by QF, nor is it a member of oneworld.
Every other QFF partner airline that isn't a oneworld member also doesn't earn SCs.

What do you mean by "tin pot QF partners"? The only airline I can think of that where SC earn is an option that could be considered "tin pot" is Jetstar.

If you are trying to transition between FF programs and have a high status level on EK, why not try getting a status match - even if you have to go via another airline to get the QF match.

I am painfully aware they are not OW... Tin pot, Alaska, Iberia, Etc..

I tried last time to get a match, the skyward guy innthe B Dubai loungue said it would be a done deal, in the end it was refused. Why, because “we have an excellent partnership with Qantas, you don’t need a match” even though I could not enter lounges for a few months while I built up EK status...

Im currently still EK SG, and will be flying J with this job so it’s less of a problem. If EK had some longer term status benefits and allowed me to earn on Australian domestic legs I would stay with them.

Actually, FJ is the exception to the rule. It and Jetstar(s) are the non one world partners you can earn status credits on without QF code. that is because Qantas own 46% of them.

Is that on a specific fare class? I have flown them many times and no SC?

Edit: OK i used the calculator and it appears to give SC. Then I suppose i have to investigate why no SC on FJ tickets in the past? Or is it because it will now be a OW-Connect airline?

Status credits (and points) earn has always been possible on an FJ flight number, provided you book into one of the eligible booking classes.
