Heathrow terminal rail transfer questions

Hello everyone,
I am flying into LHR T2 next week and staying overnight at the Hilton T4.
I want to catch the free TFL rail transfer from T2 to T4.
To reach the rail station, do i have to get out of arrivals and walk across into those lifts near the carpark at the front ?
And does the station have signs which indicate where to catch the TFL Rail service ? (I don't want to catch the wrong train service)

Follow signs to the Heathrow Express.

Terminal 4 and Terminal 5
Free shuttle trains run between Heathrow Central station (Terminals 2 & 3) and Terminal 4 or Terminal 5. There are four trains an hour. Please note from 20 May 2018, to travel on the shuttle trains, you can get a free Inter-Terminal Transferticket from the machines in the station. You can also use an Transport for London Oyster card or a contactless payment card which will not be charged when travelling between terminals.

There are 3 train stations at LHR, Central (T2/T3), T4 and T5. Heathrow Central is served by all trains. Trains go to either T4 or T5.
From London, trains run either London > T4 > Central > London or London > Central > T5 > return (T4 is on a one way loop line).

With the Heathrow Connect transferring to TfL and becoming part of CrossRail, they added fare gates to the Connect/Express platforms (they used to just be on the Piccadilly line platforms). You'll need some sort of fare payment ticket to enter the platform, though it is free as travel within the airport zone is no charge.

It's easy to go from T4 to T2, but I'm not so sure it is possible to go T2 to T4 without leaving the airport free travel zone.
You may need to use the Piccadilly line from T2/3, go one stop to Hatton Cross then change to a T4 bound Piccadilly line train.

Looking at the LHR Hilton website, they have a shuttle from T5, but it's a cash fare.

Free train from T2 to T4 - as Opusman says go to Heathrow Express and the free train to T4 is clearly marked.

I did it last week - however they were only running every 30 mins to/from T4 for some reason

You're wrong. They were every 15 mins to/from T5 but every 30 mins to T4

It's free and easy (although you may have to wait a bit if you just miss one) if you just follow the signs to the heathrow express.

When you get to T4 you have to pay close attention to the (small) Hilton signs ... you need to go up to the departures level and then and it's a bit of a walk (10 minutes... but seems like an eternity when you just want to get to your room) down an elevated enclosed walkway with signs every hundred meters or so telling you that you are only x minutes away. There is a phone on the wall where the walkway meets the terminal where you can summon a golf buggy to come and pick you up (in all my visits to the hotel I've never actually seen the buggy - just the phone and the sign).

You can do T2-T4 on the underground ... and the tube will be a tiny bit more frequent than the heathrow express. Unless you know what you are doing and have an oyster card. I've found it's hit and miss on AU credit cards working on the readers and the queues to buy an oyster at the T2/3 underground station are a nightmare ... it's a different station so getting there and finding out the queues are a nightmare and your credit card doesn't tap on will be a pain in the neck ... so my tip would be to just stick with the heathrow express and cop the max 29 minute wait.

Thank you for everyone's replies. I already have an Oyster card from my earlier London visit last month, so no problem with that. It seems that getting from T2 to 4 and vice versa is pretty straightforward. Now i pray that the passport control queue is not horrendously long !

Perhaps a useful thread to add a reminder here about contactless travel for london... your debit/credit card acts as an oyster with the same daily capped rates. A 7 day travelcard can be cheaper in some cases, depending on your travel patterns, especially if that crosses over a sunday (which is when weekly capping is measured to). Foreign transaction fees will apply, but using something like 28 degrees will resolve that.

I can confirm the daily capping works via this method.
