I reckon SQ would make some effort to try and keep you within a reasonable distance, it is better for everyone I would have though!

When we were on our honeymoon we had selected both window seats behind each other and someone in the middle offered to swap so we could be across from each other, we declined, haha.


F or J - just back from a RTW with our 9 month old - was planning on doing a TR of the various bassinets offered
 
In this case I wouldn't be relying on the waitlist clearing for any flights. Seek confirmed alternatives to any one of a number of European cities (you can then include the leg onwards to CPH for free anyway as part of the award on a partner airline such as Lufthansa or Swiss), and waitlist your CPH non-stops.

On your current itinerary above there's nothing confirmed at all.

It depends. If everyone has selected their window seats near the bulkhead, the only one left might be a centre seat or window far away. SQ doesn't shift passengers without consent (unless you have selected a bassinet seat and you are without infant, but then you've already consented to be moved at the time you selected the seat anyway).

Many passengers travel solo with infants. There's no necessity to seat both parents together.

It's not a case of increasing chances, it's a case of finding confirmed F availability to say ZRH or FRA and then taking an LH or LX flight from there to CPH. But if you can confirm business class on the CPH flights, that would be ok. Just remember you need to waitlist the F flights before you book the J flights. You need to have sufficient miles in the account to waitlist.

You must have the required number of miles to waitlist a booking. If you confirm J class first, you'd need another 300,000 in the account to waitlist F. So you'd need 520,000k or whatever it is for the one confirmed plus one waitlist.

If you waitlist the F first, it doesn't subtract the miles, leaving the miles free for you to confirm the J booking. This way you'd only need the ~300K in the accunt. The same miles to (a) waitlist F and (b) confirm J.

If business class is also on waitlist then I'd be scrapping the idea completely and looking for a different route all together.

just checked J for 2 pax, and both legs are all availalble, so thats very encouraging!
 
I’m Hoping for some guidance from the more experienced KF redeemers. After doing some dummy bookings in the lead up to release of reward seats for late June 2019, I’ve booked 5xJ reward seats (4xsaver & 1xadvantage) SYD-SIN-MXP. This is just outside school holidays.

We plan to return from Berlin mid-July. Have been doing some dummy bookings and not finding availability at maximum days out. This will be at tail end of school holidays. Will I likely be able to find it and just a matter of being flexible about port of departure or will this be a blackout period?

Going to HNL for October school Hols this year and scored 4xJ on HA through Velocity but no return availability except in Y so hoping this experience won’t be replicated. Ended up paying for return airfares from HNL.

Any experiences appreciated :)
 
Are you searching for FRA flights? SQ doesn’t fly from TXL.
If you can’t find FRA, try Dusseldof, demand is usually quite low on that route.

if there's award availability TXL-FRA you can get that added on to your ticket with SQ all in the one go. Or at least for some of your party. Intra-Germany flights can be expensive, so if you need to buy one or more, always check for return tickets as well as one-ways, sometimes the return can be substantially less.

I would choose the train. Haven’t done it yet but planning to go from Frankfurt to Berlin on the train when I’m in Germany this Nov.

Have had SQ redemptions out of both FRA and MUN in June/July in previous years in J.. I have also looked at FRA in the past for possible departure for European trips and have struck out. FRA over the years I have found to be problematic with J redemptions and probably due to it being such a busy business city with lots of points-rich business pax flying through it. So have sometimes gained flights and have sometimes struck out.

I flew one daughter out via Thai in at FRA in F (could not get J) when we added her late to our trip in Paris and could get no availability for her return flight from CPG in J or F.

We visited Berlin and took the train to Heidlerberg, which is a very interesting city for a few days, as we wanted something close by train to FRA for same day departure.

Also we have just this week flown a *A booked via SQ that flew CPH-FRA-MEL (the last 2 legs in Suites). Also had 2 daughters returning in J on SQ from MXP same weekend.
- With these for us I booked my trip at max out and *A was easy.
-With daughters only about 6 months out and *A was not possible as I was looking at via MUN or FRA as when talking with the call centre they said that all the connecting *A from Germany to/from Italy /Mediterranean was grabbed by the Germans holidaying near beaches. *A would have been nice as daughters could have flown out/in from regional airports as part of *A. But in the end had to book on SQ and buy connecting flights.

I have used German rail for accessing FRA, MUN and ZUR and have found booking online easy and cheap if booked early. Naturally their trains are most efficient.
 
Thanks for the feedback guys. I’ve run some dummy bookings and DUS looks most prospective. Now to wait out the release date.

My wife doesn’t like the idea of not departing from TXL so I’ve suggested we all go back to MXP to depart from there. Thinking Either way, there’s a flight to get there (train traveling time to DUS according to Google is nearly 6 hours. Off to look at availability from MXP.

Good to hear it doesn’t dry up during our school holidays like my HNL experience.

No this is not correct - if you have a confirmed and ticketed J saver rdpt you can simply call KF and request they add W/L for F saver on same flt / flts to your existing J booking - you will simply need the additional pts in your KF acc reqd to reissue and complete upgrade from J to F if and when F W/L clears.

Shame you can't do it on line that way :( Similar outcome I guess but without needing to call.
