Locations: (May change when J lounges open)
  • SYD - Veer to left after going up East escalators - head to passage in corner.
  • MEL - Veer Right after going up escalators, entrance in Right Hand corner.
  • BNE - Old QP, across concourse from gate ~24.
  • ADL - immediately to right at top of escalator (still use main desk when entering).
  • PER - ???

there's one in CBR too. i've been in it. get to top of escalators, turn left and its on the right side of the gate which has the QP on the left

ADL - yes I believe its the subtle Private door on the left as your face the QP desk.

I have seen people go in and thought about doing a runner into there too....

Yes I am a Status Slave/Tragic but without the ability to part of the CL crowd.... oh well some things are simply not meant to be.

virtually impossible to do a runner into a CL. they all have attendants who vigorously check, and they take your BP to hand back to you when its time to board

i have never been in a CL for intl (not sure if they even have intl CL, i presume its just the F lounge) but domestically its not that much more special than the QP. just much less people and self service top shelf alcohol. much like the Intl QP/J lounge really.

i suppose its more the status for op-ups and extra luggage that provides the real value.

i know a CL member who likes to show off by checking in with too much luggage and deliberately doesn't produce his CL card. Then he gets told he will be charged extra for it, so he pulls out the CL card and the poor CS girl starts backtracking very quickly.

Thats a pretty terrible thing to do, especially as the CS is doing their job - and if enforcing the luggage restrictions, a good job at that too.

The CLs are all at domestic terminals. For international flight, a CL member can use the First Class lounge (like any OneWorld Emerald).

The status would show in the booking so no need to "flash" the CL card when checking in for a flight. The check-in agent would be aware of the member's status before looking at baggage limits.

And there's no way any CL would be silly enough to not ensure their membership number is firmly ensconced in the booking in the first place.

This does not sound like the right type of behaviour one would expect from someone who is supposedly worthy of Chairmans Lounge membership.

My thoughts exactly. Then again, there are w@nkers in every group.

It can happen easily if he booked the flight himself and didn't use his QFF# in the booking, or a travel agent forgot to add the QFF#. Probably happens a lot. I know I've had it happen to me once in my short 'qff career'.

The CL upgrades sounds V delicious.

Assuming even Red e-deal tickets get upgraded - nice ;)

(But would a CL member frequently book red e-deals? that's another question)

The only reason that people get CL membership is based on how much they can help QF - it is not given based on their worth to the world - I have no expectation of how nice a CL member would be.

The reason being is that they run the risk of missing out on said upgrades and the other perks ...

Of course, if such a w@nker as described - perhaps they are running at "10 to the dozen".

CL membership is by invitation only. There's no way you can get there - even if you spend 365days a year in a first class seat. So I'm fairly certain there's a lot of the "old boys" mentality for inviting people - indeed wankers can often be someones best mate.

Maaaaaate, do i have a deal for you.

Seriously though, when I got caught up in the QF802 debarcle on Monday the 26th May, there were about 9 people queued up at the QP desk, and this wonker waltzes out of the CL door straight and walks behind the front desk and cuts in across another pax to talk to the QP lounge dragon, about if there was J on the Jestar flight otherwise he wanted to be rebooked onto the morning flight, which she did there and then, ignoring the original pax.

What's happening to CL when the new J lounges open? WIll there now be three domestic lounges?

(And if it's not too OT, anyone have updated info on when the new J's are opening?)

Hi All

I dont frequest here much but just thought I'd share with you my experience.

Early this month I received a letter from Amex travel. Here I was thinking it was some type of letter to let me know about the fraud investigation that was occuring on my card through unauthorised use that i reported days earlier.

Suprise suprise they (Amex travel) are recommending I receive CL membership. I guess this means they are putting my name forward fror consideration?? Dunno as I haven't heard anything back yet. Won't be holding my breath though.

I'm not high up in my company but do about 20 domestic flights a month. Mostly Cbr-Mel or CBR to Syd. All of these are booked through our travel agent which is Amex travel. Also squeeze in about 4 trips to the US each year for work.

Anyway as I said I'm not holding my breath on getting Cl, but reading through some of these posts I'm getting confused messages as to the qualification process. I always thought it was for pollies and CEO's etc, but now am starting to think otherwise. AMEX might have some clout as well because of the amount of travel they book?? Maybe they are allowed a set number of nominations each year to nominate clients that they like??

Will hopefully keep you posted when or if I get the Cl access.

My last concern is the tosser factor in the CL. I visited the plat lounge at Sydney today and there were enough there. God help them if they let a commoner like me into CL.

Mate we are not all tossers, I meet a few in the normal lounge, I find most people in the CL or the First Class International lounge are pretty normal. My advice is if you get it enjoy it. Apart from having more privacy, people that come and give you your boarding pass when you are ready to board, and some nicer food and upgrades once in a while that's about it. Don't stress I was PL for 6 years and travelled nearly every week for 6 years. Its not that much different. It's when people think it is a big deal that they become tossers... cheers

In my organisation we have several CL members, they don't do their own bookings ever, in fact everything they ever do is handled by PA's. It wouldn't surprise me if the PA's leave it out.

Its a pity that CL membership is wasted on those who perhaps don't appreciate what it might mean.
