It’s the same promo that occurred at the same time last year. Previously it’s been a buy 1 year get 1 year free etc

I have not had to pay QP fees for a long time and never will again due to LTG. Seriously are there people out there that pay $900 a year to stay members of the QP. At 40% off for 4 years (approximately $335-40 per year) I get that if you fly enough to get close to gold but not quite make it say around 400-500 SC per year.

I gave up my membership years ago when I married because my husband flies Virgin so that means most of the time, so do I. When this hit my inbox I thought "should check and see if it's justifiable" and got the shock of my life. OMG $939 is the base membership fee? WHO PAYS THAT?

(I had a corporate membership, so it was cheaper, but still, Matt_01 is right - you'd have to fly a LOT to justify that)

As mentioned that $939 rate includes the $399 "Joining" fee. Subsequent 1 year renewals are currently $540.

Something I discovered a while back: if you don't have access to a QP corporate scheme through your employer, have a look at your university's alumni page- Monash for instance, run corporate schemes that give pretty hefty discounts- $250 joining fee and $350 a year in their case

There are many places that give discount Qantas Club with ongoing availability. The challenge is finding the best at the time you want it.
For example,
AFF currently is : $247.38 joining fee and $442.80 for a 1 year membership.
Australian Partners of Defence (APOD) is has free QFF membership and a discount for Qantas Club but the amount isn't advertised.

My last renewal (on a corporate scheme) was $295 p.a. Our scheme only allows maximum of 2 year renewals.

I just bit the bullet. I've been scrounging free lounge passes for the last couple of years, sometimes unsuccessfully. 4 year membership at $340/year. I do about 4-8 return trips a year. I figure if I buy a meal and a couple of drinks in the airport foodcourt it would cost at least the same amount as the membership if not more, double or triple that if with my family. This way I can have more than a few drinks, bring my wife and child along as well.

I totally agree $939 for a year is ridiculous and totally not worth it, but that does include the joining free of $399, so continued membership of $540/year seems slightly better but still not sure if its worth it for my situation. I'll re-assess how it goes after 4 years as to whether its worth continuing.

If it’s 8 rtn trips then probably worth it ($21.50 per visit), but at 4 rtn trips I’d say not ($43 per visit). It depends on travel patterns to some extent - for example when flying in the morning I have a coffee and that’s about it. Hard to value that at $20 and certainly not $40+. In the evening if I get there a bit before my flight I’d certainly get value, but sometimes I might only have 10-20 mins in the lounge, and again, hard to justify paying much for that.

Let’s not forget that QP does have some additional benefits such as additional luggage, so it’s not always about the QP access

I too bit the bullet for a 4 year term. Wife's corporate membership expires in Sept, when we are overseas. If I can jag another discount membership in 2022 (without the join fee), then for us around $240 per year is good value. Mrs P has a thing about getting to the airport earlier rather than later, so we tend to spend a couple/few? hours waiting - easier to do it with some comfort.

I've just realised I can salary sacrifice my membership. That's a 30% saving on my membership fees. So for 4 year membership. It goes from $1349.40 to $944.58. But it doesn't stop there. I can also claim the membership as a deduction on my tax return, saving 30% off the membership cost (pre salary sacrifice amount). That's another $404.82 off the cost. Bringing 4 year membership to $539.76. Seems I will get 4 years membership for the cost of one year normal membership. That's a pretty good deal. My fuzzy logic seems sound. I'm sure an accountant won't like it, but hey.

Personally I'd rather put money I could have spent on QANTAS Club towards obtaining/retaining Gold (or above) status and working towards Lifetime status.

QANTAS Club won't give me a choice of lounge to use and won't provide me lounge access if not on a QF ticket. If it does make a difference to upgrade chances it still puts one well back in the upgrade queue meaning that upgrades are often going to be unlikely.

I'm pretty sure the tax office would not take kindly to an attempt to simultaneously claim a tax deduction and a salary sacrifice on the same item.
