It is wicked that this Scientist has to go to such lengths to assist his death at the age of 104. Although I suspect any new legislation might not assist him.
Scientist’s emotional goodbye with grandson
I am in the middle of assisting someone to go to Switzerland. Just the amount of paperwork is daunting, but having done it before I know what we are up against.

There seems to be a new and more effective shingles vax that is about 96% effective. I heard about it during our last trip to California. The tv advertising of drugs is amazing.
had ours last year - it will have to do :)

We saw Bette last time in NYC. Just waiting for the Tony Awards for ideas on what to see in June.
Have you seen the musical Hamilton? We are meeting Master FM in New York for his birthday May 2019 and he wants to see it. Been checking out tickets and it seems like striking gold to get them. Tickets are currently only available to early Jan next year, so have registered for email alerts. For December the only tickets Ticketmaster has are reseller tickets at US$1200 each for not particularly good seats!

I thought someone on here did see it. Maybe Amaroo? Apologies to the right person if I got that wrong. I seem to recall tickets were being discussed here somewhere. Can't remember but think it was in a TR at some stage.

Oh and "May the 4th be with you" and "Also with you" sounds like the Catholic Mass greeting. :)

Such indignation until you read the fine print: Perth couple fight council over lamp post in driveway

A lamp post and street sign, erected in the middle of private driveway, in suburban Perth, Western Australia. But according to the homeowners who are forced to dodge it while driving in and out of their driveway every day,

But wait.... council says the grandparents never sought approval to build a double driveway around the lamp post

Yes I think Amaroo did have something on here - I should probably do a search - he had a photo of the last minute tickets as well. I have bought tickets for Broadway before and it was pretty easy to get tickets in advance, but Hamilton seems a different thing. It’s been on for a few years and a second company is doing a tour of US towns, so hopefully that will reduce the demand for next year.

I thought of that when I replied - it seemed the natural thing to say, but that’s probably from years of church going :)

Thanks everyone. The decision came down to Hamilton (I wanted BOM) geez, pretty stiff price for four tickets!
so what did you pay, where were the seats and how did you get them? I am hoping to book direct as soon as the ones for May 2019 are released.

Yeah. Thought the same thing.

Looks like a few people have seen the show - Cove posted just after the one you quoted as well.
yes I saw that - tickets from the Marriott hotel. I suspect if I am vigilant and book as soon as the new block is released it will be OK. Master FM also wants to go to Per Se for dinner, but that seems easy to get into by comparison :)

I thought for a moment that the musical was about Lewis Hamilton! That would’ve been an easy call for me as I think he’s a prize...... so wouldn’t want to see the show at any price. :)

the more astute of you would realize I am not using the in-flight internet of QF73 to San Fran today. The flight I was suppose to be on right now (AEST). Caught the lurgy/flu like illness with horrible cough. I did not want to spread my virus around the world. So I chose to stay home. Now I am thinking how do I recoup my losses i.e. flight and Conference fees in Dallas. Anybody got suggestions. I do have a Centurion card. I would appreciate some advice as my foggy brain is in neutral.

Gosh, thats terrible to hear but Im guessing you need a doctors certificate to start with.

Drink fluids and rest. This can be started next week, when youre feeling better, as foggy brain means mistakes will be made but get that certificate.

I saw reference to Newcastle Jets vs Melbourbe Victory match tomorrow.

Finals series. How can a team lossing 10 of 27 games for the season be in the grand final? The team that was dominant throughout the year only played 1 game in the finals series and lost a close match. No home and awsy. No second chances. Stupid concept.

P.S. I don't follow the league but I can think of a similar scenario if Spain decided to have a finals series. Barcelona undefeated through 9 months of competition would not make the grand final and we'd remember the 4th placed team as the victor. Stupid concept.

Get Ye to a Doctor ASAP to get a medical certificate for today’s flight. Today.

Interesting read-

As many of you are probably aware, the reason the major US airlines operate these regional subsidiaries is to keep costs down. The pilots and flight attendants operating these flights are on significantly lower pay scales. The airlines are able to get away with this because of their scope clauses. I believe American’s agreement with pilots cuts off at 76 seat aircraft. In other words, if a plane has at most 76 seats, it can be operated by a regional carrier, while if it has more seats than that it has to be operated by mainline crews.

How different is the pay between the airlines? According to airlinepilotcentral.com, here are the hourly pilot pay differences between an American 737 and an Envoy Air EMB175:

  • A third year Envoy Air first officer makes $41 per hour
  • A third year American Airlines first officer makes $156 per hour
  • A third year Envoy Air captain makes $69 per hour
  • A third year American captain makes $252 per hour
