ANC-LAX or YVR-LAX - Any way to include in a DONE4?

Hi all,

Just working out a trip on the OneWorld RTW itinerary planner (which is fantastic, btw) and I'd love to add in a trip to ANC or YVR. I can get to each from ORD no problems (on the day I'd like to too), but getting from ANC or YVR to LAX shows no availability around the dates I'd need.

I realise ANC-LAX is on Alaskan, which are a QF Partner but not part of OneWorld...but is there any way to include this in the DONE4? What about YVR? Surely AA operate YVR-LAX (or would it just be that the flight is full?)

Alternatively, any other suggestions for ANC-somewhere-LAX? I've only used 4/6 sectors at the moment and I'm quite keen to check out Anchorage!

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: Not too keen on buying a separate fare either, as the dates could change (and I'd buy an el-cheapo fare  ).

Cheers,
- Febs.

You can't add AS flights into OWEs as all flights have to be marketed and operated by OW carriers. AA offers YVR-LAX and ANC-LAX as codeshares operated by AS which rules out those flights from a DONE4.

Only way ANC can be visited on a DONE4 is AA's DFW-ANC flight, which I understand is seasonal. YVR can be done from DFW with AA, JFK with CX or MEX with JL. YVR-JFK is a transcon.

Looks like ANC-DFW-LAX or YVR-DFW-LAX would be your only options. That or ANC-DFW-JFK or YVR-MEX/DFW-JFK, and onwards to SYD perhaps? ;)

Thanks mate, much appreciated! ANC-DFW-LAX could be an option...hmm...now to decide if ANC is worth it for ~2 days...or if I should stick with my current plan (JFK-ORD-BOS-LAS-LAX-SYD)...

Can it be done as a ground sector (and you buy a seperate ticket with AS)

Surface segments count towards the 16 segment allowance. So he'd be practically wasting a segment unless he turns around and pick up the DONE4 where he last left it.

Hi all,

I've booked the DONE4 and received an itinerary, and I'm waitlisted in A class for the DFW-ANC-DFW flights (confirmed in Y).

Given that it's 8 weeks out, what are my chances of this waitlist clearing? I've usually had a good success rate with AA DOM A class flights clearing in a few weeks...but given this is a fairly specific (obviously popular) route...I wonder what my chances would be like?

Don't really want to make the trek in Y...but I will if I have to (I'd be missing out on a lot of SC's though! :-|).

Cheers,
- Febs.

Given the relative low frequency of flights I would be surprised if this clears sadly.

The difficulty is that AA uses A class for upgrade awards, so you are not only waitlisted against other xONEx fare paying passengers, but with all the AA FF elites that are wanting to upgrade with miles for that flight.

I have no idea how AA may affect prioritisation for waitlist requests between their own elite FF members requesting upgrades vs other paying passengers.

Thanks Simon. Fingers crossed (it works out to be a 200SC difference, not to mention the fun of flying 6hrs each way in AA Y...)

I changed my JFK-ORD to be an LGA-ORD (at around the same time) which gave me an extra 60SC...so I've at least made some up there. The only other Y flight is LAS-LAX and there are no good times in A (and I'd rather spent time in Vegas than route via DFW :)).

Logically higher priority for paying pax since it's still revenue vs no revenue (maybe granting upgrades are viewed as wiping away liability though).

That said a recent EVIP waitlist for C on LHR-LAX cleared within 4 days, and anecdotal sources indicated that it'd cleared based on my lowly PLT status and not the EXP status of the requester.

Or maybe just pure chronology of joining the waitlist

Especially since the 'paying" passenger still has a confirmed seat on the flight (in L) and AA is still getting the revenue. Its not like the paying passenger is going to be paying any less for his ticket if the waitlist is not cleared.

Oops good point, I'd missed the bit about Febs already having a seat in L.

Why does LGA-ORD give you 60 more SCs than JFK-ORD?

And you call yourself a frequent flyer

Knew I'd get that response from someone. ;)

(I actually would route via DFW, if I had the time and had enough sectors left in the US...but I have neither :P).

Why does LGA-ORD give you 60 more SCs than JFK-ORD?

JFK-ORD was on American Eagle, and there were no convenient flight times on AA metal.

LGA-ORD is on an AA MD-80 (which I presume will have an F cabin, like every MD80 I've been on so far) and was at practically the same time as the original JFK-ORD flight (plus, I've been to JFK before but haven't been to LGA, so I figured I may as well check it out :)).

Cheers,

Every direct flight by AA LGA-ORD at the moment is an MD-80 with you guessed it F and Y only. Enjoy !
