Has anyone else noticed that a significant number of people queuing for the barista service in the morning are other QP staff? :)

Haven't noticed this - but then, I tend to time my flights for when the bar is open.

Aargh, it's pet hate time! The barista queue just gets me going, probably because it's a bit early in the morning for me when I get there after the stress of parking.

Yes, there are often QF staff there, tough I din't blame them because Melbourne airport coffee is expensive and not very good. QP coffee is just not very good.

Why are the baristas unable to handle anything resembling a queue? Why don't they hire a properly trained barista who can serve more than five customers in ten minutes? The inefficiencies are mind-boggling and the complete lack of speed would put any paying business out of business. (And I know its not a fantastic job). And why do they offer hot chocolate - it takes sooooo long to make one.

Because it would cost them more in coffee beans, cups etc. Now if they were selling the coffee and making money, there would be an incentive to server more product. When its costing someone to provide the product for free, there is no incentive to provide more product!

I have never seen the coffee barista in action in the QP, but one can only make coffee at a certain pace. It's one of those things that shouldn't be rushed (although 2 mins per coffee does sound a bit on the long side)

Mark, they use a fully automatic machine - no tamping at the Club! They make them one by one, when having a row of coffees and doing them with a whole jug of milk at once would seem to be a much quicker way of doing eight coffees.

And when there is a Qantas staff member in front of you in the line who has ordered 6 coffees for her and her colleagues, it can be rather irritating

Taking something that is meant for a customer can be considered as stealing, in fact SQ think so with their pursuit of a steward that helped himself to some first class goodies that made the news yesterday. I think the same should apply for the QC Club, that is the benefits are only to be used by people who paid to be there, as opposed to being paid to be there.

So what purpose does the Barista serve???

Not had one of the Barista coffees lately, but suggest its worth everything we pay for it ;)

Depends on the employers policies. *IF* the policy is that QP staff can help themselves to tea and coffee (but nothing else) whilst on duty, then there is nothing wrong here, although I agree that QP staff should use the self-service machines if the barista service has a queue.
