Lack of curtains separating Business and Economy on 737

I've seen a few economy meals make their way to the front over the years. ;)
Yep, BNE to WLG we had Y meals because the J was curry and something similar that didnt appeal to us.

FA tried her best but the Y meal still looked a bit like a dogs breakfast. just dished up on better plates.

Haven't flown VA in years but do they still have the rope that goes across once the flight is in cruise? I've always thought that was simple and effective and looked fairly elegant. Can't imagine that would add much weight (and therefore fuel cost) to the aircraft either.

Yes they do - my last few J flights on VA it has only been used sporadically though, maybe some planes ropes have been lost? I passed the feedback onto VA customer don’tcare team but no response!

I have seen Y pax lift ropey up and traverse to the front loos and ignored by the FA’s as well.

It seems both VA and QF FA’s need a bit of training on being a bit more firm on board with wandering Y pax, but at least VA sometimes have ropey to help them!

I have done that once sorry busting to go and there was queue down the back ........The FA did give me lip but I explained my urgent nature ......Mea Culpa

From the key vantage point of either 3C or 3D on almost a triple digit number of VA 737 flights (along with a few in J), I can confidently say that I have never seen the rope NOT being used (in the normal way) for the entire flight.

Could care less, or couldn’t care less?

I hear “Could care less” when in the USA. In Oz, it’s “Couldn’t care less”. There’s probably a bit more to it though.

On top of the already noted reasons (weight, cleaning etc), I'd suggest removing the curtain also allows better "visibility" of the cabin for cabin crew (in particular the CSM) in the event of issues arising (security, service delivery issues etc).

The magnetic rope is the right solution.

A curtain/rope is good because it stops Y passengers from queuing up through the J cabin to use the toilets. I've had to wait 20+ minutes to use the loo when flying J on a Qantas 737. Everyone else in the queue had come from Y and no effort was made to turn them back. Another time, sitting in row 1, I've had a Y passenger doing stretches in front of my seat during the flight.

I don't think that's good enough given the prices charged for a J ticket.

When the 2 carts are out for dinner at rows 6 and 8 on a full flight nobody is going to bat an eyelid about you using the front toilet.

And forget this nonsense about being prepared.

Often it’s the entitled row 4 WP degenerates that use the J toilets. The same scum that whine when ‘their’ shadow is taken by a random no status passenger. Agree rope required!!
I know those. I avoid using the toilets on domestic planes and have been successful so far. I usually sit in row 6-8 that usually avoids the last minute scramble for up front rows when these open up and rows 6-8 often retain their shadow. It’s the person who doesn’t even bother to look behind them to see if there is any obstruction but simply walks straight forward. Last time I encountered one of those I was in window seat and he was aisle. I suspect he was WP also and that the shadow was courtesy of his status and he assumed I had none and just got lucky. Anyway he chucked all of his stuff in the shadow seat leaving me with no place to put anything. That didn’t last long. He then went to the forward toilet. Not looking back and there was no meal service yet. I moved it over his side and put my iPad cover there plus maybe a jacket. I was waiting for him to say something referring to his status but he didn’t. Wise move on his part ;)

Clearly I couldn't care less about the difference between Could care less, and couldn't care less.. because it's pretty clear that I just don't care :D

Once mrsOpusman and I were on NZ ADL-AKL, back when they still had a proper business class. We were the only pax in J. Sometime after the meal service the hostie came up and very politely asked if we would mind if some pax from Y came up to use "our" toilet as there was only one working down the back and there was a rather large queue. Of course we said "yes" and the hostie then spent the next 20 minutes or so guarding the curtain, letting one pax up through our sacred space at a time. And then they gave us some airpoints vouchers to say thank you!
