Am booked on MEL-SYD QF187 as AA7335 on SEP 19. I am connecting to HNL later that day. Was aiming to take advantage of the Flounges in both MEL and SYD, and vegetate in the SYD one with the hopefully-by-then newly minted EXP status. :D

However doing a search the other day I noticed that QF187 has disappeared, whereas AA7335 still exists but is zeroed out in all fare classes (usually sign of an impending cancellation). :-|

The flight is still showing as confirmed in my itinerary, only an equipment change from 333 to 332.

So I am guessing that my flight no longer exists and I'm waiting on AA or my TA to get around to rebooking me when the cancellation has filtered through to their systems? It's been that way for at least the past week...

Assuming:
  • You WANT to travel internationally from MEL to SYD &
  • Your QF187 is no more
Then do nothing until they contact you. When they do, tell them you wish to be rerouted on the earlier JQ30/QF28 (with persistence if necessary). This is scheduled 10:25 - 11:50 so gives plenty of time for you flight to HNL (all be it, 1½ more than you may have had).

FWIW, there are three flights SYD-HNL that day:
JQ3/QF283 @1755
QF3/AA7359 @1945
HA452@2120

Thanks serfty and you assumed right. Or at least I think that QF187 is actually no more anyway despite still showing 'confirmed' in my itinerary - for reasons I'd mentioned.

Am actually connecting to QF3 (booked as AA7359).

It's a LLGLOB26, ticketed on AA stock, so I think QF74 (AA7290) that leaves 20 minutes earlier might be the only option for an "international" departure to SYD. I've already warned my TA to look out for a cancellation and that my preferred alternative is AA7290.

Given this is booked and ticketed on AA I'm assuming that it's either AA or the TA that'd contact me, not the operating carrier? I could've booked the MEL-SYD on the QF code which would've been easier I suspect but the TA insisted that they have to use the AA code for the first segment if I want the ticket issued via AA.

If you've been reaccommodated, a change will appear in the TA's GDS queues, at which time they should call and advise of the change.

I'm assuming they're being slack and haven't advised you.....

That's what you get for booking with Trailfinders Keith!!:mrgreen:

AA's systems are still showing the phantom flight as confirmed, perhaps that's why the change hasn't been sent to my TA's systems yet.

To be fair 2 consultants I dealt with at trailfinders were awesome, but they've since left. One became a corporate TA don't know about the other. Not entirely happy with the new people that I've been dealing with. :(

Needless to say from herein I'm going to the airline directly whenever possible, or building the PNRs myself. Or perhaps a PM on here to the resident Guru. ;)

The cancellation finally came through, and I've now been rebooked on QF73 MELSYD. :)

Now QF73 is also gone... QF automatically rebooked on an 1100 departure.
As the whole point of flying at that time (to catch an "international" flight and gain access to the MEL Flounge) has now been defeated, I've asked to be rebooked to a later flight closer to my QF3 departure, on QF442 which gives me around 3 hrs to enjoy the SYD Flounge. :)

I think you will find AA rebooked you and to give them credit this is done on the other side of the pacific by people who have no experience of Australia.I found myself in the same position on a DONE4 and first noted the change on my reservations on aa.com.This is one area where aadvantage has a problem because the only notification I had was on aa.com so it is always wise to check regularly,it does come up with a warning on the my reservations page that there is a change in flights or times. However my TA was able to change the new allocated flight to one maximising my time in the SYD Flounge. She also has had no difficulty booking me on non AA coded flights, usually BNE-SYD.
Of course AA had no part in cancelling the flights, good ole QF strikes again.

In fact they may have even thought that people wouldn't want to be on an international flight number so they could avoid the hassles of the international airport... it is only us monkeys that actually seek these flights out ;)

Seems like the "international" flights between MEL and SYD, QF187 and QF73 have fallen off the schedules entirely from August, as I couldn't find them on either Friday or Sunday. The AA codes for both flights still exist on the schedules but are showing as canceled. Unless these flights have been shifted to some other day/s?
