4F so much legroom

On a recent flight on a QF 737, I noticed that 4F was available for seat selection. This never happens for me due to lack of status. Normally, I just feel lucky if the overwing exit rows are available, which they also were on this flight, but I thought I never sit in row 4, it is my duty to experience it. And thankful I was too. I was pleasantly surprised how much leg room there was, even more IMO than the overwing exit rows. The armrest table was not an issue.

Possibly. Only problem with 4F is if you get someone my size in 4E (happens more often than you think) you'll have a very uncomfortable flight.

Row 4 is great especially if there's an empty seat next to you.

Yes, occasionally the size of fellow passengers has made things less comfortable than normal, but that could happen anywhere in economy.

I pretty much monopolise 4C and 4D on every QF flight I take and I will miss this when I fall back down the status ladder.

The introduction of YX on the 'purple side' has generally sorted out the front row 'middle seat' issue, where the equivalent of 4B/4E was filled with lone, non status pax and the middle seats in the next few rows were empty.

I am yet to lose my shadow to a lone middle seat pax since YX was introduced. The times where I have not had a shadow is when a couple have been flying together in the other two seats.

Could not agree more. It is one of the reasons I am flying more with VA domestically these days. I target R4/5 in Yx as R3 still seems to get the occasional B/E travelers.

And sometimes that is generally not ok.

After years of travel, last week I had the opportunity to experience a 4B passenger who was actually a 4B+part 4A and 4C traveler. It is made worse in R4 as the armrests are solid and fixed, so what ever body mass cannot fit under a movable armrest spills over and into the adjoining seat.

I get some are larger than others, however if your body mass cannot fit within the boundaries of the seat and half the arm rest in a vertical line, in my opinion a comfort seat should be purchased, or made available for the comfort of others.

Hope not because the Qantas ‘shadows’ seem to work a lot better than equivalent seating on VA! VA often have randoms plonked in the middle seat, whereas my experience is that my shadow and whoever’s shadow is in the aisle/window is pretty good at fending them off

My shadow percentage on VA since YX has been introduced is magnitudes higher than I ever received as a QF P1 (where I could formally request a shadow to be provided). It is not even remotely close...

I exercised the same duty for the first time on a recent trans-Tasman flight. Row 4 consisted of me, an empty seat, and a family of four including two young children. I did wonder how envious tall people heading further back might be of the kids — whose feet barely extended past the ends of their seats, let alone into the copious leg room!

Poor peoples first class is 4 seats in a row to lie down on in economy. Very rare but a fantastic perk if you can get those three shadows!!
