Hi all

Heading to London for 4 nights work in a few weeks. Keen to stay near Oxford St area for shopping and restaurant options.

Which is the best Hilton / Doubletree to stay at? Hilton Gold here so keen to hear which one looks after status members the best.

Thanks!

I always stay at Hilton Wembley. A bit out of the way by usually around half the price. Great lounge and look after members .

The Trafalgar (now Curio?) is pretty cool (location and roof top bar overlooking Trafalgar Square). As Diamond, got full breakfast menu. Not sure what Gold treatment is.

Charing Cross station and lots of bus options nearby. Walking distance to heaps of things.

Conrad St James is my favourite but not very close to Oxford st. However it is close to other attractions in the area and there is tube station near by.

My only London stay was Doubletree Victoria. Was gold at the time and received no special treatment. Room was very nice and breakfast was wonderful. Very close to Buckingham Palace and the tube.

My favorite is the Conrad St James, Tube across the road. The Traflgar is also a lovely, quirky hotel but does not have an Exec Lounge.
I’ve not been Gold for years but when I was I got Exec Lounge Access and full breakfast at The Metropole

Re-Gold benefits, Conrads in Asia will usually not give any upgrades or lounge access but do offer full breakfast. Not sure about policy in the UK, especially breakfast at Conrad where they have buffet + a la carte.

I ended up booking the Metropole as it was cheapest within my budget. Will report back on how I go.

We enjoyed the Metropole, Paddington and Canary Wharf. Canary Wharf had a very nice upgrade that was a very modest price for a suite and lounge access.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Going back a few years but I've also had good stays at Canary Wharf with suite upgrades, city views and the lounge which had excellent afternoon tea and evening canapés.

We tend to stay at Hilton London Hyde Park, easy access from Paddington (Heathrow Express/Connect) and Central Line tube (right on top of Queensway)

Decent hotel, cheaper end of the price range, good location for Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park, tube and buses to Oxford St etc. from outside the door. Decent status recognition - room upgrade every time so far (Stayed as both Diamond and Gold)

If you want a nice and modern Hilton, with good sized rooms.. the Hilton Bankside is really new and nice and modern (and all rooms are the same size instead of the random layouts you can get in older converted buildiongs). It's more ideal for business stays in the area though - is a 5 minute walk to the tube.

Cannot speak to status treatment, I'm barely Silver :)

Looking forward to read your experience.

I’ve booked 3 nights at Conrad in April and thinking of breaking this booking with different HH property in the middle to get 3 stays and increase upgrade chances for each.

We had issues with Metropole billing for our two rooms. They ended up not charging us for the second room for our two sons.

Hilton Garden Inn at Hatton Cross. Cheap and cheerful.
Close to LHR - but 50mins from Central London on the tube :)

Just to provide an update:

Got upgraded from Basic King room to a King Deluxe Room with Executive Lounge Access. The Exec lounge isn't amazing at all - I went in for breakfast and they barely had any hot food. Better to go downstairs to Flamma on the ground floor.

Metropole is fine if you get one of the refurbished rooms. Location is a bit quirky but close to both Edgware Rd stations, and close enough to Paddington
Exec lounge is OK, best use the restaurant downstairs if you want a decent breakfast (which I just saw you did).

Conrad St.James would be my favourite

Next would be Hilton Tower Bridge, Doubletree Tower of London, Hilton Park Lane (albit a bit tired).

Avoid Green Park and Paddington (unless need to be on top of station for quick exit to LHR)

Had a house mate when I used to live in London who was Manager for the Hilton in Docklands Riverside.
A great F&F rate of £25 per night including breakfast was nothing to sneeze at.

Despite being a little further out, this location is nice and peaceful with a lovely walk that straddles along the Thames for most of the way back to Tower bridge.

Don’t discredit the area for it quirky pubs and quintessential London neighborhood feel.

As for the Metrople, I used to work directly opposite the place at M&S.
When I asked people if they liked staying at the Metropole, very few had positive things to say about the place. Suffered from like many Hilton properties, little soul.

I'd agree - stayed here a few times. It's modern, has good facilities and is well located. Usually a bit cheaper than other options in the West End too.

I am a Diamond HH member, and have been spending about 50 nights a year in London for the past few years. I like walking in London, falling back to the tube when necessary - that has some influence on my hotel choice. I'm also looking for an exec lounge and quiet rooms with a good desk / internet. My favourite (since it opened a few years back) its the Hilton Bankside - behind the Tate Modern and near Southwark, Waterloo and London Bridge stations. Excellent rooms, regular upgrades, first class lounge, great breakfast restaurant, very good gym / pool, and plenty of quirky features (the foxes, bee hives, roof gardens) - and the staff are great. If the price is right, and for a change, I'll stay at the Conrad St James - I understand managed by the same team as the Bankside, and with equally high standards (although typically smaller rooms, less frequent upgrades, and generally more expensive). If the prices are too high at these two, I'll then look at the Hilton London Tower Bridge (decent lounge with deck, reasonably modern hotel, quiet location), Waldorf Hilton (great location, a little tired, but great buzz at times) and London Hilton on Park Lane (smaller rooms, average lounge, but great being near the parks). If pricing is very high, I tend to look at the Doubletree Westminster (always seems to be good value), Doubletree Tower of London (great rooftop bar), or the Hilton Paddington (the GWR 'hotel within a hotel' is quite good). I haven't had great experiences at the Hilton Metropole (very big, tired), Hilton Islington (noisy - may have been my bad luck) and Hilton Kensington (noisy, tired). Hilton Gatwick was a good option a couple of times (basic gym, lounge), and I'd like to try Syon park if I get the chance - also, Wembley will be added to my list after the comments above.
