It's on again!

In August 2016 (Mega giveaway) I ran a big giveaway and now I've amassed enough to do it all again.

Last time I offered two random items at a time and a member would simply put their hand up. This time it's a little different. All 65 giveaway items will be listed at once. However, with permission I've borrowed anat0l's scavenger hunt idea (e.g. The AFF Scavenger Hunt) to make things a bit more fun and to engage a bit of AFF community spirit. There are upwards of 80 travel-related hunt items that can be found. Once you've found one, you get to choose a giveaway item.

How it works
When you've found an item on the hunt list, simply post your photo proof (see below) and include both the number of the hunt item found and the number of the giveaway item you'd like. I will then confirm (or deny) your find and receipt of the item you've requested.

An item on the hunt list may only be found once.

The 65 giveaway items are in two tiers: tier two comprises 22 pairs of pyjamas; tier one is everything else (almost entirely F and J amenity kits). Similarly, the hunt items that can be found (around 100) fall into two tiers. If you find something in tier two, you may choose a single giveaway item from either tier one or tier two. If you find a hunt item in tier one, you may choose a giveaway item in tier one only. The majority of hunt items are in tier two giving members more chances and more choice.

As a giveaway item is chosen, the recipient's name will go alongside it in the table. Similarly, as a hunt item is found, it too will be struck.

Proof of find
To prove your find you post a photo of the hunt item. Note, though, there must be no doubt that the photo is yours and hasn't been taken from the internet or elsewhere. If there might be doubt, you may like to include a date stamp or a newspaper in the photo that shows a date of 1 February 2018 or later. Or you may like to include a thumbs up in the photo.

The photo of the find can have been taken prior to the start of the hunt but what's important is that it's yours and you haven't lifted the photo from somewhere else. To borrow from anat0l's second hunt in 2010:

No previous photos are allowed. No stock photos are allowed. No photos or images borrowed from airline websites are allowed. No manufactured/synthesised photos. No conjuring the photo on your computer and then taking a photo of the computer screen. Essentially, it has to be a photo you have taken in your travels or daily life.

It's also important to remember that your photo must satisfy me (and everyone else) that you’ve met the full criteria of the item to be found. So, for example, if an item to be found is "a hotel-branded pen in a hotel room", it needs to be clear not just that you've got a hotel-branded pen but that the photo has been taken in a hotel room.

Importantly, no personal information should be shown in the photo; that's of no interest. For example, if a hunt item is for a boarding pass or hotel bill, the name and contact details are never going to be relevant so scrub it out.

The cost
Naturally, the items are free. However, at the end of the hunt, I will PM the recipients with an address to which you will need to send a pre-paid satchel so I can send the item to you. You're free to do with the items what you want but I do ask you don't sell them.

Eligibility

To participate in the hunt you must have been a member of AFF since November 2017 or earlier and have at least 30 posts. To allow as many people as possible to grab a giveaway item you are only allowed to snap up one item in any 12 hour period. So, for example, if you post a find at, say, 4.30pm and I later confirm the find, you must wait until 4.30am+1 before asking for another item by way of another find. (Note, the 12 hour period begins from when you post your find, not from when I confirm it.) This period may be relaxed down the track if there are not many participants or to speed things up a little.

What's on offer
The 65 items on offer will shortly be placed in the Wiki (link) kindly (and with much time and effort) created by support.

And here's a link to some cheap and nasty photos of the giveaway items: Imgur: The magic of the Internet.

All of the pyjamas are new and unused unless specified. (The pyjamas may well smell of camphor and other insect-repelling odors.) As far as I can tell the amenity kits are also unused, except where I have noted that some of the contents are missing.

Departure time
The hunt will officially begin between 10.30am and 11.30am Adelaide time this Sunday 11 February when the list of hunt items to be found will be added to the Wiki. In the meantime, please post any questions or seek clarification on any of the above, including the giveaway items on offer.

Ein confusen. Will have to read through a few times. A nice change from work.

One question. Maybe 2. It says no previous photos can be allowed. Does that mean posted in AFF previously? And these photos must be taken after today not previously taken and have some date in the pic. But then it says the photo can be previously taken.

Yes, sorry about that. I was afraid it might get a bit tricky but I've tried to keep it as reasonably straightforward while also being fair and interesting.

It’s always hard writing instructions.

I can hear the sound of a bugle, there are dogs eagerly barking, horses whinny.
The hunt is about to begin!

In confused on what the "post your photo proof"? What are we suppose to take photos of?

I need a power point! ;)

I think there will be "hunt items" and the first person to provide a photo of each one gets to choose a prize.

Yes I think so. But what is confusing is where it says they can’t have been used before (? not sure the meaning) and to provide a date reference from 1st Feb and then it refers to using photos previously taken.

Ah. So Danger (OP) will post, Prize #28 for a photo of water crackers with a pen (and a thumbs up) and the first to post the photo wins?

See - I needed a power point :)

thanks,

thanks,

When the list is released you get to pick (from the list) what to photograph and also mention what item you want. If confirmed by @Danger then the item will be crossed off and assigned to you for collection at the end.

The list of items to photograph will drop this weekend, so no one gets a head start ;)

But I’d still like to know. If we already have a photo of the item on the list can we use that?

The instructions are a little contradictory:
Proof of find
To prove your find you post a photo of the hunt item. Note, though, there must be no doubt that the photo is yours and hasn't been taken from the internet or elsewhere. If he asks for a photo of Krispy Kreme donuts, Im ready to go!

Although this sounds very time consuming for Danger, it sounds like fun so looking forward to joining in as Im always on the hunt for PJs for hubby.

Many thanks!

Yes you may use an old photo. It just has to be yours and not lifted from elsewhere. The "not previously used" prohibition means a photo not previously used on AFF.

The instructions are a little contradictory:

The text needs to be read in its entirety. "If there might be doubt" about whether or not the photo is legit (i.e. doubt that the photo is yours and not taken from elsewhere like the internet) then you might like to include a time stamp or a newspaper, to remove that doubt.

So by all means, dig through your own photos from yesteryear if it shows one of the hunt items. All I'm trying to do is prevent people from simply typing "Black aircraft" into Google and using that image to prove their find.

I hope that helps with clarification but if not please do post again and I'll have another go at explaining.
