I have heard that some flights will be going to A319 ops when the plane arives.

TIGER Airways will increase the number of flights on the Adelaide to Melbourne route by 50 per cent.

The confirmation comes less than 24 hours after Jetstar announced it would stop its Adelaide to Sunshine Coast service on July 1 and halve its Adelaide to Sydney flights from two a day each way to one a day each way in July.

The Jetstar cutback is attributed to escalating fuel prices.

Rival low-cost operator Tiger yesterday said it was encouraged by demand for its Melbourne to Adelaide route to add a third daily flight each way in the afternoons from August 11.

So typical of the media to make a story out of nothing (either that or they have been sucked in by Tiger PR). Tiger is not actually replacing "pouncing on" the lost Jetstar services, unless hidden somewhere JQ have announced cutbacks to their AVV-ADL services.

I have had friends flying with children travel Tiger to/from Brisbane to Melbourne and Adelaide to Melbourne.

In both instances I have been told how unpleasant it was and how they are the worst airline to pick for travelling with children - totally unhelpful. Apparently also, baggage collection in Melbourne is a complete shambles.

Virgin Blue is very friendly towards kids, tell them and their kids to fly DJ on the annual holiday.

Apparently also, baggage collection in Melbourne is a complete shambles.

Baggage collection at MEL T4 is IMO suffice for an airline the size of TT. It is reasonably quick (remember AeroCare tend to offload the checked bags to the tarmac, then immediately load the turn-around bags, and finally, deliver the offloaded bags to the pick-up area). The pick-up area is reminiscent of the way things were done 20 years ago, or like at a small regional airport. (While it is covered, the sides are open to the elements while you wait, but they do have demountable toilets. Importantly, for luggage security, only those who have come off the aircraft can access the carousel area, I think this is actually quite clever... but on the downside - it leaves anyone picking up passengers, on the other side of the wire enclosure. (I think, TT's systems were designed by people adapting their International Airline Experience to a Domestic Operation.)

Or for that matter LST (or at least LST used to be like that when I last flew there with checked luggage about 3-4 years ago).

At least it's only a wire enclosure ... which means people on either side can carry on a conversation whilst waiting for the luggage.

Interesting news item! I reckon Tiger had two possible paths to follow, given the shadowy global economic environment; crawl back into the den and hibernate OR attack aggressively... And now we know which path they will take.

Also, from the CEO of SIA in the article -

...if you've got to go from Sydney to Perth, are you going to spend more on the airfare or will you spend more on gas?

A most interesting association, because at the moment, if you have to get from Sydney to Perth, Tiger is not an option.

I realise “on-board service” isn’t a TT marketing priority (I imagine their recruitment policy is high turn over, low pay), but I do like their prices, good to hear they are going to continue being the airline prepared to keep the air fare!

Certianly appears their retention policy is to attack other airlines for taking their staff!
