Here's my Tripit stats for 2017:

2017 Total
Trips 12
Days 94
Distance 240,175 km
Cities 24
Countries 7

Mostly long haul to the UK on SQ. Also some domestic on QF. Luckily for me all in J (or F upgrade).

Hopefully I will be travelling less in 2018 (an alien thought on AFF I know!).

2017 over with 2018 starts today (ADL-MEL). 2017 in review:
  • 154 Sectors
  • 172986 Miles (278365 KM)
Another impressive contender for the AFF FFer 2017 award!

C'mon, spill the beans, Y,W,J,F ratio?? ;)

No issues with spilling the beans on class of travel. Just discovered what those circle things are on the AFF Flight tracker. It tells me

Class:
F - 5.9%
J - 47.7%
W - 1.3%
Y - 45.1%
Class by distance
F - 14.1%
J - 58.1%
W - 4.3%
Y - 23.5%

Have not looked into the % above in any great detail and it is most likely I will never be bothered. At a quick look seems to make sense:
Regular DOM commute is normally in Y unless QFP1 upgraded me. Also a few J flights with VA with that 40% off promo back in Oct. other points
  • Traveled W MEL-SIN rtn this year with SQ, I have not travelled PE (W) before and if I had to pay for it, would not. Also did a DOM QF trip on the QF 787 but assuming this was recorded in the Y bookings
  • For the first 9 months of 2017 (and previous 4 years) I was running my own show and had control of the class of travel for myself and staff
  • Most J travel is long haul
  • All family travel is either J or F; rewards or paid.
  • All F trips were with QF, EK and QR. QR was just to go the QR F lounge in DOH.
I did not realize there was an award for spending the most amount of a time on flights. I have already received what I consider the best AFF reward, a 6 pack of hot source from Bill and his wife at the Mel Christmas party.

C Gibbs has more fights than me, in my opinion he wins.

Coming in late because I just completed my 2017 flying two hours before midnight (Beijing time). A moderate year for me, but should keep me as a *G member for another couple of years. :)

Miles 27,919 (44,932 km)
Sectors 17
Time in air 68h10m

Airlines flown CA (7), SQ (6), MU (2), KA (1), KN (1)
Airports PEK, SIN, HRB, MEL, PVG, HKG, LDS, TSN, NAY
Cabin F 0, J 2, Y+ 1, Y 14
Seat Window 16 Middle 1 Aisle 0
Plane 32x (5), 737 (4), 380 (4), 777 (2), 330 (2)
New Airlines Cathay Dragon, China United Airlines
New Airports Hong Kong, Beijing Nanyuan

Best surprise would have to be getting op'ed up from Y to Y+ on SQ218. This was my first op up. Let's hope for J/F next time! ;)

Well down on last year....fortunately.

I did not realize there was an award for spending the most amount of a time on flights.

No, there's not. I just made it up, but it may be fun. I have no idea how to gauge the "AFF FFer" award though. Should it be number of sectors, number of miles, number of SC's, the highest average cabin class, the longest time in the air?? Or a combination to a set formula? Maybe two awards ... the DYKWIA FFer award for the most miles in the highest seat class and the Trooper or Pauper FFer award for the most sectors/longest time in the lowest class.

Maybe, as 2018 has just begun, we propose it for the 2018 flying year? Have to decide upon the rules though. Many of my flights don't earn SC's and have just one class, Y, so I hope those two factors aren't included! (not that I'd come even close given this years results).

The occasional long haul Y can be good for the soul. :)

Of course with status that's in a bulkhead/plus seat with lounge access before and during travel ;)

Then again, I have booked a Basic Economy DFW-ORD for next month for au$39 ... Let's see how I go in a middle seat for 2.5hours.:eek:

81 return trips in 2017, another brutal year of travel done and dusted.

Actively seeking a new role with heavily reduced travel requirements.... getting very close to the end of my tether... Even J and F feel uncomfortable and a chore these days!

I look at anyone above my level of flying and wonder how on earth they survive!

I had 181 sectors for 2017 and i can really feel the "wear & tear" now. Got the flu early December and i think its mixed with sheer fatigue both physically and mentally and I'm still struggling to recharge the batteries. There is no way i could do 2018 like it, or it will be my last post!

It becomes mechanical. Robotic. I actually want to fly more. I love the flying experience even if at times I feel drained. I love airports. I love seeing the movement of people coming and going. I love people watching.

And I'm happy doing it in economy as it means I can travel more often on a tight budget.

With you on everything up to the words "And I'm happy..."
