Jet nearly hits workers at Perth airport - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Safety officials are investigating a close call between an Indonesian passenger jet and a group of construction workers at Perth Airport last week.

It is believed a Garuda jet inbound from Bali aborted one attempted landing after the pilot queried traffic controllers about vehicles on the runway.

The Garuda jet then narrowly missed hitting the workers when it appeared to misjudge a second approach.

Garuda.

Do we need to say any more :?:

No... No, we don't.

If you fly Garuda; or get in the way of one of their aircraft; you are taking a risk with your life. They are as dangerous as any number of African airlines, in my opinion. I would take a slow boat rather than boarding a Garuda flight.

The message might get across to them if they are banned from AU Airspace

Why do people still fly them? I have seen boarding of many full flights ex MEL lately, bit of a worry. There are other choices like JQ, D7 via KUL etc..

They have the only business class direct PER-DPS. However even that wouldn't entice me, despite the low fare.

There is nothing wrong with them, There government has invested billions in upgrading the fleet and improving training.

I wouldn't fly with them - no matter what the enticement.

On approach to land at Perth, air traffic control issued the Garuda pilots with the landing clearance: “Runway 21 displaced threshold, cleared to land.”
.
.
The ATSB found that when the 737 was about 15 seconds from touchdown, the pilots questioned the presence of maintenance vehicles on the runway and decided to abort the landing and conduct a “go-around”.

On the second approach, the pilots were issued the same landing clearance but air traffic control noticed they were again going to land on the closed section of the runway and instructed them to go around again.

The report noted the crew claimed they had not heard the instruction.

The go-around demand included information to help the pilots identify where to land.

The ATSB found that the additional information and the “high workload being experienced by the pilots may have confused them, with the effect that they did not act on the instruction to go around”. Instead, the aircraft flew at an estimated 30 feet to 50 feet above the vehicles and landed beyond them.

What part of displaced threshold didn't they understand....surely it's not the first time the flight crew had ever had that experience?? Then again, it is Gauda we are talking about

Well judging by the ATSB report I think they had better spend a few more billions in improving training.
I wouldn't get on a Garuda plane if they paid me to do so !

Garuda should never be allowed in the air again.
I have never and will never allow myself or any of my family to "fly" with them.

Maybe Garuda should not be allowed to fly into Australia but if we dis-allow them then there govt may choose to dis-allowed QF and other Australian airlines overfly rights.... that would be a complete mess.
So we kindly ask they improve there aircraft and training and just leave it at that, what else can we do except help them improve ?
