I'm confused about terminology.
One World DCIR29SA is now 20 segment , 16 next month and 6 Stopovers, 2 per region.
Exactly what is a segment , and what is the difference between a segment and a stopover?
Say we fly bne,hnl,las,jfk.
Assuming that we must have an arrival port/transfer in la.. how do I work out the segment/stopover count?

We may then fly jfk via miami or somewhere down there, en route to Quito (uio). Then a land segment , then Lima(lim) -Punta Arenas (puq). This isn't direct and we will overnight in scl.
Could/ would that be called a stopover??

Same segment problem/question heading home We need to fly Ushuaia (ush) > Brisbane (bne).
But of course it is a lan express feeder to Santiago and then a one stop flight home via auckland.. ( there is no direct flight) Is that one or three segments??

Appreciate some guidance ..thanks in advance

A "segment" in this context is a single flight number on the one date.

This is irrespective of whether it has intermediate stops or a change of aircraft (on any such intermediate stop).

A stopover (again in this context) is either:
  • where one departure of a segment from an airport is more than 24 hours after the arrival of the immediately proir segment of the booking at that airport or
  • departure on the next segment of the booking is from a different airport than the arrival of the prevoius segment of said booking.

sigh.. thanks.. thought that might be the answer.
So the 20>16 reduction may make a difference for quite a few itinerants.
