Sunday J Lounges for everyone

I think in PER they direct everyone to the J lounge very early in the morning as the QP lounge only opens slightly later. At least that was my experience earlier this year on a weekday taking the first flight of the day from PER to SYD.

Come to think of it, this has also happened to me in SYD, late on a Saturday evening. The Qantas Club closed around 9pm, and the few remaining people in the lounge that were booked on the 22:05 departure to MEL were sent next door to the business lounge. Nobody complained.

I don't imagine they would ever do this if either lounge was even close to being full.

This is not new to CBR. It has been happening in other airports during quiet nights for long time.

Not the end of the world. It makes sense to cut down on number of staff working during quiet periods.

This has happened to me a few times in CBR and while I would normally be one of the first people to ark up about such events, it hasn’t phased me at all.

When lounges are quiet there is very little difference between them. In the CBR QP you certainly get a better space and view than J (though no planes to view!), and I think it is simply common sense to consolidate a smaller number of passengers into whatever showcases QF the best. But I agree the CL should be opened up!

A bit OT but in the past 10 days I have again been in the ADL and DRW lounges and I still rate them as great.
Large, with several distinct zones, lots of natural light, good food and excellent service. Even though I have been very spoilt with F lounges, I don’t find these lounges disappointing in any way.

I wonder what the likelihood is that Qantas would close a Chairmans Lounge, with its comparatively significantly greater footprint per member, if there were only a handful of CL members passing through and directed them instead to the J lounge. I expect that would cause some serious outrage.

I flew out of CBR on the evening of Labour Day a couple of weeks back. Business Lounge was closed and people directed to Qantas Club. Still only sparsely populated. No problem.

Not sure where this thing about the lounges nationally being closed on Saturdays came from. I fly regularly on Saturdays and all lounges are normally open.

I am fairly sure this happens in MEL over the Xmas/NY period: I recall entering the ;lounge behind a CL who was being informed that he would have to use the J lounge.

There is a big difference between the J lounge and the CL.

The whole point of the CL is separate your typical CL member from scum like me.

The J lounge just separates me from 18 days ago from me now. I am still the same scum but just with a different coloured FF card.

In my experience those truly warranting CL status (senior Ministers, CEOs of major companies etc) spend almost no time in the lounges and really only take advantage of CL status to time their arrival at an airport to basically walk straight onto a plane as the last pax, knowing the plane won't leave without them.

it is only the hangers-on or lucky guests (like me on rare occasion) who want to spend any time there. And those totally undeserving (IMHO), nobody CLs who like to be seen and schmooze, of course.

Certainly in CBR the majority of CLs I know are government related and they couldn't care less about which lounge they sat in, if at all. With the odd chardonnay socialist exception, of course.
