I totally acknowledge this is a first world problem, but I’m going to bring it up anyway.

I turned up today at CBR and the Qantas Club is closed with everyone in the J lounge. According to the lounge dragon, this is a new nationwide (his words) trial on Saturdays.

I get it’s no skin off my nose, however I work hard as a small biz owner to fly QF and OW to get platinum and pay for it on my own coin. But this makes it less attractive and is the thin edge of the wedge.

I have Lifetime Gold, so what’s the point in gunning for the next level? #devaluingplatinum

Agree, thats disappointing. Wont impact on Adelaide people - we have no J lounge. And I bet they dont trial that in Melbourne.

This has happened in Canberra for a long time on mornings when it is expected to be quiet - mostly Saturdays and Sundays but also some public holidays and around Christmas.

Not sure what the complaint is? You're being given exactly what you're entitled to - access to the business lounge. Are you upset that you have to slum it with the plebs that should be held in the Qantas Club?

So is that every Saturday the Qantas club is closed ?!?!

Overcrowding I guess. Is it a benefit of a tier if it is then opened up to a lower tier?

But the J lounge is not overcrowded. The only reason the Qantas Club gets closed is that both lounges are deserted at these times.

This is sounding a lot like the people who pay full price for business and complain that other passengers have upgraded there on points.

Highly unlikely to overcrowd, as QF have been doing this when they know guest numbers in the lounge are likely to be very low.

First world problem really.

If you can handle the almost 60 minute wait times if you want to speak to anyone at QF, I suggest you drop back to LTG and fly BFOD.

That's unusual; for Qantas 'Nationwide' usually starts and ends in Sydney.

No J lounge in HBA either; but we do have a sandwich toaster .

But that's the best QP I've been to. Far closer to J lounge standard than QP

Oh puleeease. Complaining is the whole point of this forum. We’re all entitled...aren’t we?

What I was actually alluding to was the fact that one of the benefits of that status level is a seperate lounge (entitled or not) which is a benefit they sell that status level on. Remove it and the benefit of the status level is diminished and since Qantas is currently one of the poster children for airline profit, closing loungesand reducing premium status level benefits is not smart. No company in the history of capitalism ever ‘saved’ themselves to profit in the long term.

I'd prefer the QP lounge in Canberra anyway, much nicer view of the runway.

I've been in the QP canberra lounge sometimes and it seems like there is only 6 people in there. I don't think overcrowding in the J lounge will be a problem.

Can you point to where Qantas advertises a "separate lounge" for its platinum frequent flyers?

Nonsense.

Last time I flew out of CBR on Qantas (2 weeks ago, on a Sunday evening) the J lounge was closed with everyone being directed to the Qantas Club. They did have J Lounge catering in the Qantas Club, with a few extra hot food options and some better wines compared to my previous visit a week earlier (when both lounges were operating).

A couple of WPs were obviously (and audibly) annoyed by this. But there were so few people in the lounge anyway that I can understand why QF only wanted to have one lounge open. By this time there were only 2 more flights departing that evening, one to PER and one to SYD. I was on the SYD flight and there were only 20 pax on board. Not sure if the J lounge had been closed for the entire day, though.

Serious question for the OP - would you rather that everyone was sent to the QP (as was the case a fortnight ago)?

Not just for Platinums. Sydney example here (look at 'eligibility'. Why do you think Domestic business Lounges were established, if not to separate higher status pax from the great unwashed?

Of course not every airport has a DBL ... but where its provided, it is a 'selling' point for achieving higher status.
