We have a booking for Bali in early November. The flights in J via Qantas were booked through the DSC offer a few months ago. I must not cancel for that reason. We also prepaid our accommodation through Luxury Escapes which are non refundable. We have travel insurance that will cover it all but I can’t do anything yet but wait it out.

Thoughts please. Assuming the volcano closes the airport. Limitations. I need to rebook to another destination using the same PNR. There is quite a flex in the fares (ie $) being J (originally ADL-SYD-DPS). I’m thinking I’ll need the insurance to get the money back from the Luxury Escapes - 9 nights in Nusa Dua. We don’t mind a shortish overseas destination but not Singapore etc - done that one too many times recently and it’s not a relax kind of place which we want. Fiji might be an option? Need to maximise the DSC too. Must be on Qantas. MrP goes to NZ heaps so that’s out. Although maybe Queenstown? What would it be like in November?

Noumea? However long stop in SYD/BNE.

Noumea doesn’t show for me on Qantas. Ah. Wait. Sorted it. Hmmm. An option methinks, just have to overnight in Brisbane on way over but straight through on way back.

If it does blow and they close the airport, I wonder what option Qantas would give you? Does anyone know what happened when Mount Rinjani blew in 2015?

We made a short list of places if our early Nov Bali trip is scrapped, but we are booked with SQ so it was based on their routes with known flights and current availability if we needed a short notice change.

Then we priced hotels and listed them based on the value of our pre-paid accommodation in Bali that we would get back from a claim....

Langkawi or Kota Kina Balu
or
Koh Sumi

It’s a bit of a trek for us to get to those places compared with Bali. It’s only a week so don’t want to spend too long in travel. Kota Kina Balu is lovely and we stayed there for about 10 days.

What about QF to MNL and then PR or 5J down to Tagbilaran for Bohol/ Alona Beach, Panglao Island?

Great value day tour possible on Bohol Island, and provided the weather is OK (not guaranteed, but many days are even at this time of year) you can visit offshore islands from Alona Beach. There are other beaches on Panglao Island as well, and Alona Beach is about half an hour by taxi from Tagbilaran Island. Alona Beach is the second most popular Filipino destination (beach) after Boracay Island, but Alona is not super crowded compared to Thailand or Bali, except at Easter and around Christmas.

Mind you, I'm not convinced you'll have to scrap your Bali trip.
