I'm sitting in the BA flounge at Heathrow and once again someone's having a phone conversation or skyping on loudspeaker...seriously put some earphones in!! Do people realise how far the scratchy AM radio sound actually transmits throughout this space? Most of us probably don't need or want to hear the conversation about your 2 year old's toilet training failures, which we can only hear thanks to the high frequency sound of the person on the other end screeching through the iphone. Equally annoying is the constant "ping" from their facebook updates. Should there be a STFU zone in all lounges? YES!!

Welcome to AFF Ms Carrington.

Can but agree. In a Flounge I would (and have) approach the offender and ask them to use headphones and if that fails, as the staff to require it.
These days - the way people get antsy so quickly - I’d get the staff to intervene every time.

Love_the_life and I experienced a very agitated man yelling in what I presume to be Arabic over his phone in the Emirates lounge. It was really disturbing. We didn’t even dare approach him. We weren’t there long but if extended we would have gone to the front desk.

And the people watching videos without headphones

And it's usually a certain demographic IME...

And the parents letting their kids watch animated movies with shrieking voices etc at restaurants - keeps the kids amused, the parents happy and everyone else disturbed.

Oh, I'd just about say something

Again this was with love_the_life in Singapore. A local couple with a dinky animated movie. Awful music. We asked the waiter to do something - he ended up not wanting to offend the family so we were moved. A bit of a peeve at the time as we’d just received our meal. But the table was a bit nicer I guess. Not a perfect solution though.

How selfish of you. Couldn't you just put on headphones to block out the sound? You know, like The Simpsons episode where they get 25 greyhound puppies. Easier to put flea collars on the family, rather than each of the puppies.

Never thought I would say it but with infants it is not so easy.

Adults are a different story. Rude people are everywhere. From the person who can only catch up with family in the lounge. To the person who has to call everyone on the train and then not have enough battery on the phone for Google maps. To the person who has to put their feet up on the table. To the person who does not need to use utensils to serve food from the buffet.

How about flying in First all the way to LA and having to listen to a one of those special ones watching cartoons all flight! Happened to me a few weeks ago and more than an apologetic 'can't do anything about that' I didn't get from the (otherwise lovely) QF flight crew

Awful

Come on, get with the program. It's all about ME ME ME. Stuff everyone else. It's 2017. ;):p:mad:

(nb: in case it's not obvious I'm being sarcastic)

No!!! Just NOOOO!!! That's shocking, I literally can't even understand how that can be allowed to happen...SMH!!!

When this happens - sit down opposite them with a notepad and pen and start furiously taking notes. Have done this once and everyone around killed themselves laughing.
That's hilarious!!! I am so doing that if I experience that again (which undoubtably I will!) :p

Argh. This is a severe pet peeve of mine also. It's as though certain people are just so full of their own self-importance that they believe those around them would want to be privy to the ins and outs of their life.

What a great suggestion re notepad. If I actually carried one around, I would most definitely take it out and begin to feverishly write, all the while glancing upwards at the offending speaker with a look of wonder on my face.

Perhaps instead I could just begin to engage in their conversation, make it a three-way conference call of sorts... probably won't happen though :( I prefer to avoid conflict :D

Person on the tram this morning was listening to / watching Youtube clips at full volume on the speakers of her iPhone. The tram was packed and she was oblivious (I assume) to the fact that everyone around her was just staring at her. The weird thing is that she had headphones draped around her neck but they weren't plugged in.
Young bloke on the train last week was playing music (well, rap) at full volume and it was excruciating to listen to. As soon as a profanity was rendered I told him to turn it off or buy some headphones as there were kids nearby. He grunted and turned it right down.

Same as the idiot next to me in Hospital last year. TV blaring out and he had headphones on. Nurse told him to turn it down. It was 10.30pm. He said he could barely hear it. She took a look and plugged the ear jack into the TV. Hope it ruptured his ear drum. He was a genuine - well, cant say here but it rhymes with stick.
