Yesterday QF64 was late into Sydney with the result we missed our connection to MCY. These were award J seats and on different bookings but linked.

No availability on a flight to BNE yesterday evening or on this mornings QF flight to MCY so we were rebooked on the JQ flight this morning to MCY.

Is it worthwhile to ask Qantas for a refund of the difference in points between the Y seat on JQ and the J seat we had on QF. Or am I wasting my time?

Thanks for any advice.

Just to add, that even though I realised that the flights were on different bookings and therefore Qantas had no obligation to help us, their agent as we exited the aircraft went over and beyond to help us. We did however have to organise and pay for a night in a hotel near the airport and taxi fares. A lesson learned.

I don't see the harm in asking. Give it a shot, provided you had originally left a good amount of time between the incoming flight and your connection to Brisbane.

I'll be interested to know the outcome. Have a QF booking from SIN-BNE in a couple of weeks, with a J award flight from BNE-SYD a couple of hours later on a separate ticket.

I think your request is reasonable given that you missed your flight due to a Qantas delay.

There was 2hours 45 mins between flights.

I will email Qantas and let you know the response.

I had a situation during the days of JASAs. A QF flight like DRW-BNE in J went tech and I was rerouted on DRW-CNS-BNE in Y, overnighting in CNS at QF's expense.

I claimed and got original routing credit but they would only give me something like 2,000 points to make up for the downgrade from J. It was just a status run and the extra day didn't really disrupt me so I wasn't too put out. It'd be a different story if it was say SYD-DXB.

No harm in asking but really.... I think you did so very well that the agent did as much as they could to help you when really they would have been well within their rights to say "Sorry...." - in some ways I think that is a form of compensation, or refund if you will, right there.

Still you never know your luck in a big city.

We are both WP so I think that helped, as he said " I see you are both frequent flyers". He then rang someone to see what could be done.
