Plus one nice to hear

I'd use caution before relying on this product.

I have been trying to obtain clarification regarding the contradictory terms in the PDS with this insurance. CBA referred me to Allianz claiming they have nothing to do with the insurance product. Allianz sent me back to CBA saying that while they issue the product, CBA determine elibigility with their cards.

CBAs response to the FOS today was "we do not issue the insurance product, Allianz is responsible for it. This is our final decision".

Given neither CBA or Allianz are prepared to accept responsibility for this, I have obtained another insurance product.

Were you trying to claim? I activated it, and was sent a certificate of insurance. It clearly tells me how to claim should i need to. Just interested.

No I was trying to clarify some contradicting points in the PDS. There are still several references to "proving eligible spend" etc which still suggest that the PDS expects a spend on the statement. The first CBA staff member agreed and said that there was a contradiction, however they then put the wall up. Allianz isn't interested either.

Given the PDS has some serious issues and the bank doesn't seem interested in fixing them, it sounds like the sort of thing they'd try to use to deny a claim

I've activated mine for trip to USA. Reading through the policy it looks better than the insurance I paid for last year. Limits are higher and quite generous. Finally ''free'' travel insurance worth having.

hey eveyrone

is this still avaialbe?

i used it a few months ago, but cant seem to find it online under my netbank login

found the link,
it was very hard to find buried
still aviaalble

I always wonder if you accidentaly give the wrong info do they void your claim

eg travel between 1st jan to 31 jan

and you acidentally submit it as 1 jan to 1st of feb

or put the wrong country down eg you arrive in cambodia, put down cambodia but spend most of your time in laos and have a accident in laos?

Just curious

Am currently on holidays.
My plane has been delayed half a day am which means an extra night in hotel

My excess is 200 or 250
Is there any point in making a claim if I'm only going to net $50?
Ie do excesses go up? Or they won't insure you? Etc etc

If it were a paid policy which had a renewal option I'd consider not claiming, but given that CBA is paying, go for it! Any excess is the standard amount for all cardholders, unless you have special cover like for pre-existing conditions, snow etc.

sorry for the late reply,

thank you for your help,I

will claim the next time, as its probably not much benefit to claim this time

They (any TI I have seen) don't take past claims into account, so always claim.

Anyone actually claimed anything on this? Reading productreviews site doesn't instill a lot of confidence into me.

The Insurance Terms and Conditions will explain that.

As for the 'schoolies' abandoned in bali, i am sure most of them are destitute and heartbroken at being stuck there. We might need to crowdfund for a greenpeace ship to go pick them up.

For those claiming they have been abandoned by insurance companies can go cry me a river. Who could not have possibly known about this potential issue leading up to the event.

p.s. the Bali hotels are giving 1st night free and subsequent nights 50% off for stranded travellers. Governer and hoteliers association mandate.

Not really, no. CBA said "not my problem" and referred it back to the insurance provider.

They sent a very washy email stating that "some people are covered under the old provisions, and some under the new, so the terms may not reflect your situation".

All in all... I'm not really sure how confident I'd be in the product. CBA totally distance themselves from it, and the insurer doesn't seem to be very good

Any experts on the cba comp travel insurance.

Going to Bali in a few weeks
1. Is flights cancelled due to volcano covered I had a quick look at the pads but couldn't find it I'm sure it's in there though

2. If I can't get to Bali and hence all the hotels I booked. How does insurance work with amex travel credit bookings, or points redemptions

Thanks everyone

The free cover is provided by Allianz, and their website says:

If you entered into a policy after 7am (AEST) Friday 29 June, 2018 we would expect that this was done with an awareness of the increased activity of Mt Agung and that this could affect travel. For these policies, where that is so, claims that arise due to volcanic activity associated with Mt Agung (for example, flight delays or cancellations) may not be covered or have reduced cover.

So provided you activated your cover earlier you should be OK

Compare that with eg. Covermore who won't cover anyone for Bali unless the policy is older than Sept 2017!

2. If I can't get to Bali and hence all the hotels I booked. How does insurance work with amex travel credit bookings, or points redemptions

That is a very good question, and I suspect until someone goes through a claim process we won't know the answer.

My first thought for the Amex travel credit was "I have an invoice for the full amount, it should be covered" but I checked my invoice (for a flight booked with Explorer travel credit) and it says:

$536.82
Discount - $400.00
Tax $93.17
PAYMENT RECEIVED: $229.99

So from the insurance PoV we've received a "discount" on our bookings and are only owed for the amount we paid over and above the travel credit.
