I did. I was told water was $6 a bottle, full stop.

Not good!

I was on a A320 DPS-ADL but on a Plus fare. I received a hot meal and asked for a water with it. Was told that only a hot drink was included but they'd bring me a cup of "plane" water. I decided just on a hot coffee. I'm sure I saw some other pax offered plastic cups of water. And it's always been there on their large aircraft.

What are you all whinging about.
I've flown with them 16 times since February last year and the only complaint I have is that they don't give consideration to your regular flying if you stuff up a booking and want to make a change. It seems they don't rank their regulars.
Otherwise you sooks should pay for extra legroom, buy a feed , sit back and relax. If you assume it might get in late, so what.. If that's a big deal, book an earlier flight or pay more to fly with someone else.
you get what you pay for.

This is the difference, you know the drill.

Me, I flew them after a long hiatus since the early days of survival-of-the-fittest seating allocation, with the front rows blocked off, purely for lack of any other option. Not in a hurry to try again.

Have flown several times with JQ from Perth to Bali since Virgin quit the scene and left us with Tiger at awful times. I was thrilled when Tiger was given short shift from Indonesian authorities (serves Virgin right). We have found JQ to be great, even leaving 5 mins early all packed and ready to go. We did not pay for seat allocation and at all times have been sat together. The main problem has been the overcharging of luggage allowance.

Seriously? I haven't flown JQ for a year, but for 3 years I flew JQ 4-6 times a month. Most of the time they were cheap and ok. I don't think Jetstar staff have ever dragged passengers off a flight. I've never been bumped from a Jetstar flight. And they give you a voucher if you have a valid complaint. Qantas don't even respond to complaints. Response rates of 3% can only be a rant about bad experiences. My experiences with UK airlines are much worse and The staff are unkempt, rude, and can't give a continental (yep, seriously anti continental), the planes drab, the food yuk. I'd rather fly JQ than British Airways, any day. I only ever fly BA for status credits.

Gary C,

Welcome to AFF. :D

I understand what you are saying but a couple of points.
  1. Name calling gets you no where here. People here aren't really sooks :!:
  2. Whether or not you agree with the exact position the survey puts JQ at the wrong end of the table.

  • Are they really at the bottom? Who cares the issue is their inability to actually accept where they get it wrong. e.g. blaming weather for delays. Well sorry but every airline has those same weather issues.
  • Or saying TT wasn't included. Well include TT and JQ are still at the wrong end of the table.
  • The day I stood in line for an hour to drop baggage. Their answer was that it didn't happen. They wouldn't accept the problem existed until I gave them a date stamped photo. Even then no apology just a $50 voucher.
  • I'm flying MEL-NTL in a few weeks for Oz Fest and VA are/were approx $20 cheaper than JQ and I'll be treated like a human and will probably get there in reasonable time. Going a day earlier is not an option in this case as it isn't in many other cases.
  • There are many other examples.
3. They aren't always the cheapest or even close. Price guarantee, sure but being on hold for ages just isn't worth the effort.

In summary I find JQ are not worth the effort as they treat you poorly, tell lies and make excuses for issues when ultimately it would be better and more cost effective for both themselves and the customer to try and fix the issues.

If I was flying international - I would not go JQ economy - but if I was 30 years younger I would probably be okay with it because of their low fares. So it is really about expectations and planning - based on your priority regarding cost - time and quality.

Personally, I have never had a problem with JQ when flying - but then I adjust my expectations based on the above.

I always fly JQ business internationally if available. It isn't on some of the NZ routes but then they don't involve a lot of flying time. Last year my wife and I flew return to HNL on a JQ 787 in seats 1a and 1c both ways. I found it up there with J flights on full service carriers, BTW I have never - repeat never experienced rudeness from any JQ staff - either cabin crew or ground staff.

My experience of JQ is entirely the opposite. I live in BNK and the alternatives to JQ are Virgin or REX. I have been flying JQ since QF stopped its Dash 8 service some years ago. I have more time and flights with JQ than I have (at age 70) had hot breakfasts and I have never experienced the issues that you highlight in your corporate name calling.

I'm equally a fan of the LCC - at the right price they are a great way to travel IF you have low expectations and expect rules to be enforced to the letter.

Long haul I've flow Jetstar, AirAsiaX, Scoot and Norwegian in a mix of classes and Jetstar feels like an overall better package with more professional staff, particularly in Biz.

Domestically and intra-Asia I've flown a few more and certainly prefer Jetstar/JetstarAsia when given a choice.

My experience with Jetstar versus AirAsia is exactly the opposite.
Ultimately what tips me over the line though is the need to fly early to guarantee getting somewhere/anywhere on time.

This is my experience with Jetstar.

Last year they abandoned me at OOL at 9pm at night claiming they couldn't fly for weather related issues. Every other carrier was flying though. Said it would be 2 days before they could rebook me on any flight. I had to find my own accommodation, meals etc for those two days. No compensation of any type offered. As a result I'll never fly Jetstar again. There are always repercussions when you treat people like this, but Jetstar simply don't care. As I said before 'Jetstar are rubbish'.

This is not only risk averse but the airline equivalent of the 'CFMEU society' that Australia has become.

Using 'safety' as a cover for 'incompetence' is costly for Australian consumers - in this case JQ travellers. In recent years, at least internationally, GA appears to have had a pretty good safety record, yet it runs flights in such circumstances. SQ also operates, and many people regard it as the world's best airline (although that may be based mostly on factors other than perceived safety.)

The short answer is not to patronise JQ, and to actively patronise its safety-conscious competitors, which does not include AirAsia. As one of the other AFF aviators implied, D7 and its variants also deserve to be on one's personal 'no fly' list.

You seem to have a problem with Air Asia. Perhaps you could provide us with some statistics showing how AK (not including FD, QZ, D7 or any of the other franchisees) compares unfavourably with other airlines, safety wise.

clifford, I doubt that it is just I that 'has a problem with AirAsia.'

I acknowledge that perceptions can be subjective if one is just a passenger, but there are also very serious incidents such as this:

Doomed AirAsia plane flew 78 times between Perth and Bali with fault for 12 months - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Also note that one of our aviator contributors has a similar view in respect of AirAsia being an airline to avoid. That's concerning, because one would hope he is being objective.

I will fly AirAsia but not Garuda :!:

After 350+ commuter flights with JQ (MCY-SYD-MCY) I haven't got many complaints. They saved me days if not weeks sitting in traffic driving to and from BNE....

Worst airline in the world - LOL! I suggest the respondents to this survey need to travel little more...
