QR J in Doha - which lounge

I'm surprised they get enough bums on seats in and out of PER.

I've flown out of PER three times on QR recently and each flight J was absolutely packed. It's not a bad way to connect to Europe or NA from PER.

In fact for one of my flights, I actually flew out of SYD to PER on QF purely to connect to the QR flight to DOH and onwards to LHR, instead of flying out of SYD directly on QF via DXB. QR is quickly becoming my choice airline for any routes where it makes sense.

May as well post here. Travelling whY on QR DOH-AUH, as oneWorld Emerald. Directed to the 'First Class lounge' (ie the one below the Al Mourjan lounge but above the business class lounge.)

Frankly, its cough for a 'First' lounge (international 'business' standard, at best). There are seats with power points, but the desks don't have accessible power points. A lamentable food spread for breakfast and there is a massive electronic sign above the lounge, bathing it in flashing, gaudy lights.

At 10:30 am its near empty (just 2 of us) and I understand why. I'm going to give up and explore the terminal.

Yes, I am spoiled, and there are those that would 'kill' to get access to a lounge like this, but I just tell it as I see it.

Hi all:

Next April, I'm traveling business class Qatar Airways Adelaide to Doha to Milan.

Arriving in Doha at 3 am - until 6 am. Any ideas on what lounge access I'll have? Al Mourjan?

Also - at this time, what will the offerings be like? Will there be a typical food service? Drinks?

Thanks for your comments. :)

Yes, you'll have access to Al Mourjan. Which is huge, but very good.

Not sure what will be available at 3am, but I suspect it will be fine. There's two restaurants, one upstairs and the other at the far end of the entrance level. The upstairs restaurant usually has both A la Carte and buffet, whilst the one on the lower level is more like cafe style.

I suspect at 3am, it might be quiet, but expect to get busier around 5. Just ask the staff, there's plenty of them. Head to the showers first if its quiet!

Went through Al Mourjan at 1am after Finnair altered my VIE-HEL-HKG legs to VIE-DOH-HKG. Only had about an hour in the lounge and it was about half full when I entered but had emptied by 1.30am -- so I guess it just depends which part of the 'wave' you are in. I suspect 3-6 it will be quiet again.

Didn't have time for a shower anyway but note they are not signposted -- they are in the bathrooms on the far wall as you enter.
Food wise you have the 'sandwich' bar off to the far left which is very good, or the more substantial buffet and a la carte upstairs (again this dining area is not particularly well marked).

Finding it is relatively easily with signage from the big bear to all the lounges (including the new poorer Business/First lounges for non-premium pax).
They have positioned staff at the bottom of the escalators to check access (a bit like QF SYD F Lounge)

General lounge shots, and menu/sandwich bar (with the bear)

Some super photo arranging there.

Also, just remembered, if it happens to be busy and you need a shower. There is a second set of showers past the cafe restaurant on the lower level. You'll see some signs for the rest/sleeping area, its down in that area. Although I did not use them, but noticed them when I tried out the rest area.

Wow, thanks for all the comments and advice. Really appreciated.

Sounds like I was completely incorrect to worry about the possibility of services being out of order at such an unsociable time! Sounds like I'll be able to grab a sandwich AND a full a la carte breakfast (or will it be time for dinner?!) I can't wait! :)

At 3am it will probably be quieter than peak time (11pm - 1am) but they won't cut back on what's available. QR do their J lounge very well and I'm sure you will be spoiled for choice.

I thought the upstairs dining area was closed for a period sometime from about 1am but may be wrong.

Enjoy it! Its one of the better lounges I've visited. It does take 5 to 10 minutes to get your bearings because its so large.

You'll be able to get a good meal and rest/shower at 3am for sure.

That may be the case - my last time there was middle of last year and I'm sure that back then upstairs was open at around 2am but people with more recent experience may know otherwise.

I can sadly report that the upstairs restaurant at Al Mourjan no longer offers an a la carte menu and only offers a buffet. The buffet is ok but I was really hoping for an a la carte dining experience before the 14 hour flight to SYD.

I was literally going to post this. Just arrived on the flight from Adelaide and was sad to find this. Are you still in the lounge ComeFlyWithMe?

Possibly was but didn't see your post sorry. Boarded QR908 to SYD in J shortly after posting.

The sandwich bar cafe thing looked preferable in hindsight, at least they were freshly made.

The other thing lacking were simple snacks. Couldn't find a bag of chips, cheese and crackers etc anywhere in the lounge, but maybe I was just jet lagged!

My first experience of Al Mourjan lounge in DOH. Pretty busy at c. 0630h.

Not blown away. A bit sterile IMO.

But the kicker just now was the lengthy queue almost out the door to use the men's toilet. That's novel...

And only fair.
Hoping to get a shower spot next July after ADL-MEL-DXB - Doha trip. DXB to Doha in Y but rest in J.

Too late now, but there are several lots of men's toilets.

It really isn't as good as it once was. The removal of al a carte dining was a major downgrade.
