Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

A smooth, easy drinking Shiraz from Balgownie Estate tonight. Right on its peak drinking. Just a smidge of Viognier in it.

A couple of tasty treats from last week.
The Meursault was very fresh and Chabliesque. The Marsannay was lovely, all minerals and red fruits. Both delicious.

I purchased half a dozen of these from epiQure to cellar but curiosity overtook logic. We needed something to go with the BBQ chook and roast veg.

The first thing you notice is the really dark colour of this wine followed by that distinct Cab Sauv. nose. Cedar comes to mind but then the whole mouthful is just delicious. This is a big wine and although it is a joy to drink at the moment it will live for a long, long time.

It is just sublime

Tahbilk 1860s Vines Shiraz 1996:
CT93 from me.
Vivino says this is selling for $900/bottle! Maybe I shouldn't have drunk it! Retro label for this special release. Cork in immaculate condition. Nice fruit core of red berries (cranberry, raspberry) and cherry, with supporting savoury spice, leather and supple tannins. This is quite an elegant, delicate cool climate Australian Shiraz, and has layers of complexity. In good nick despite its 21 years of age. Nice.

Addendum: finishing the remnants on day 2, and the savoury spice is more predominant, along with cigar box and some smoky notes. Definitely still in a robust condition, with the fruit not over-ripe and porty.

Sharp wine and images AC.
Surprised only rated a 93.

This weeks reds lined up and only Wynns to finish (tonight after returning home from timekeeping at kids swim carnival).

Very impressed with the Spinifex, still have 2 bottles left and will leave to slumber a while longer. The Ironscraper was the last of my first half-dozen bottles, so will now get out the next half-dozen and put them in the rack (only have a 48 bottle rack, so space at a premium at present). Thanks to Steady for recommendation on both.

After two really good bottles, thought I'd head back to the Wynns Black. Definately not in the same league as former two but good with pasta.

From my limited experience with Wynns Black it is best consumed after 6-10 years minimum. Sure, it can be said about almost any premium Cab Sav but for some reason I found Wynns wines (not only the Black) particularly disappointing when had them too young.

Ah fond memories of when Pyrex paraphernalia constituted a significant proportion of share house domestic consumable implements in many forms, sizes and combinations.

We, ah, probably had inferior wine to this back in the day ...

My first post in this thread, hopefully not my last :)
Having only started to drink wine in 2016 , this was my first bottle that cost more than $30 I've ever drank .

We had this on new years eve. I don't remember exactly how it tasted writing it up now, but luckily I did my own notes back then:

On opening notes of nuttyness, quickly dissipated. 1st drink on opening, a bit tight. left for 3 hrs decantered and was incredibly smooth. mocha tones and dark fruits. Lots of tannin Colour, deep maroon 9/10

It was a real scorcher today, cool breeze in the evening means can finally relax in the balcony with a bottle champers. I really like this one and kicking myself for only buying one case when it was on sale last year.

While the rest of the country melts, it has been cold and very wet in Perth. Thought this would go well with lamb for dinner tonight at Chateau Daver6. Old Bordeaux is a thing of beauty. When it hits the spot, it really hits the spot. And only 12% alcohol!

Started off with some antipasto on the back deck

12 hour lamb shoulder ragu with homemade pasta then finished off with a lemon almond and ricotta cake.

Thank you for a lovely evening. As always the food and company were great!

Now, there were almost 5 Rockford bottles in that line up, but I couldn't find the 2009 in time, as it is stuck right at the back of my cellar. In any case, I think we had an "appropriate" quantity of wine.

Definitely more than enough wine; any more would have resulted in some sore heads this morning

Was that a mini-vertical of the Moppa Springs?
