CX Lounge entry denied (SFO)

I should add she showed me the list. It had maybe 6 or 7 numbers on it. Seemed like a lot of chairmen to me - I thought that was supposed to be pretty exclusive.

Being Silicon Valley i guess there could be a lot of company big wigs and high spenders.
Our company has a office there and some of the execs travel a bit.

May have just been shorthand / convenient way to say 'you can't come in'.

So is this a case of CX not wanting to let people in due to "overcrowding", or more likely a case of QF not wanting to pay CX for normal non CL people to enter what they know is a better lounge?

I would suspect mainly the latter.

CX would increase their revenue the more QF PAX they permit entry.

Yet plenty of non CL people have obtained entry (such as my good self; no list, no hassle). From having a conversation with the desk guy about it at the time, I think it is a local CX attempt to not have a crowded lounge, perhaps inconsistently applied and inconsistent reasons given to refused passengers.

As I noted up-thread, I think admission for QF passengers will depend on a matrix of:

* the time you front up (earlier the better)

* how many actual CX status / J etc passengers they are expecting that evening (lower the better)

* yes, likely your OW/QF status (higher the better)

Denied. "The CX lounge is full tonight"
after careful look at BP

I think its was important to try and everyone should try because
1) you may get in
2) CX lounge angels may feedback up the chain and CX may talk to QF to do something about these pesky OW passengers

Decided to slum it in AF/KLM "lounge". Didn't stay long.

Did not try BA terraces lounge either - did not want 2 slaps in the face.

I dont remember if this has come up but it would be interesting to see if a CX Elite on the QF flight tried to enter the lounge.
Do you think they would still be rejected? Would they reject one of their own Diamond members?

Another data point. Master FM was denied entry to the Cathay lounge on Friday 7 April travelling J on QF74. (He had Silver status). He was told the Qantas flight was very full (it is), so they weren't allowing entry....Currently in the KLM lounge - he sent me photos - looks pretty woeful.

The lounge situation in SFO and my experience of it last year means that QF will no longer be an option for that destination, especially when departing from it.

I've gone back to flying via LAX.

I tried the SFO route last year. While I did manage to get into the CX lounge (which was quite lovely), the aircraft and service in both directions in revenue J was terrible.

Master FM works for Google in Mountain View, so the flight really works for him, as he can put in a full day and then fly in the evening. Going via LAX, which is what he used to do, meant an early finish. He said the lounge situation is particularly bad as options in the terminal aren't good, unlike Lax.

His flight was fine - he is not particularly demanding and I had selected 5B for him, which he said was a terrific seat. Thanks to all the info on the forum :)

Changing terminals in SFO is a PITA. LAX is much better.

This was just posted on a Boarding Area blog. Not quite related to the CX lounge but more the AF lounge - the default option for QF pax - at SFO, which has constantly and without exception been bemoaned in this thread:

Given the overall bad assessment of this lounge on this thread, does anyone dare to go to this blog post and kindly ask the author what they were smoking or how much they're getting bribed for that write up?
