Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Following up on my post here, looks like I have to spend $350 at Langtons. Have never used them and doubt I'd need a broker (as I doubt I'll be a regular purchaser from them). As a lover of reds only and having no space in my wine fridges, looking for quaffers (pinot, Cab Sauv, etc), any suggestions?

Quaffers or a bit better? The Iron Scraper @$25 or the MP RoseHill @$50 or.....

a broker will will get you free freight and another $50 off your purchase- you sure you don't want $50 more wine....

Now, here's my opportunity to try and cover up my public guff earlier. And pretend my earlier post (below) was in anticipation of QF WPs post above!! I'd agree with Steady. The OP&OH 14 (not the 13) and the Hares Chase 13 would be my picks.

I've had a quick look, and can see why you are not that interested, CJEMNMAC.

Langton's usually has a much better buy now offering. So my guess is they are targeting the promotions to clear certain lines. Or, more likely, they have hiked the prices in anticipation of the black whatever it is rubbish that's coming. I find that when I speak to my Langton's broker there is a lot more to buy than appears on the website. Often the best buys are not public, to save (winery) face. The best buys are the auctions or the aged buy now options, particularly the premium mystery packs. But there's little in that space.

I think $50 for the MP Rosehill 14 would be my pick. And the Hares Chase 13 at $25 (if I didn't have any, and don't mind a more elegant style of Barossa Red). The Rosehill is in scarce supply and will be a great wine from 5 years on. The Hares Chase is well made and breaks the mould of jammy Warm Climate wines, so it's decent value at $25 (that said, I have spotted a few AFFers who have picked it up for a song, with statement credit and cash back).

With 8% cash back (on the price less the GST) and your statement credit, you should get a good (not ridiculously good) deal.

Hope that helps. Cheers, Wozza

With $400 to spend you could do 6xRH and 4x IS

If you want something special, 3 x Mount Mary is $405. Or there is a Henschke Cab Sauv or Woodlands CS, or Cullen DM, or

Langtons aren't really a go-to for cheap quaffers. You're better off at DM for that.

But at 50% off you can get some decent high-end Aussie stuff like Diana Madeline or Clonakilla, or go a bit off-piste and get some Bordeaux, Champagne, Burgundy or Barolo. They have a decent selection, and at 50% off you probably won't find cheaper elsewhere.

Otherwise they have the Turkey Flat 2014, Tolpuddle Pinot etc that are in the 2016 Halliday Top 100.

But for mine, given you have $350, I'd look for 3 x bottles around the $120 mark (use the search function and limit teh price to $100-150), or 6 x around the $60 mark, and get a few things you wouldn't otherwise buy, but get good reviews. Won't take up much space, but hopefully should reward you in a few years time.

Nobody noticed Wozza, really. ;)
I am too lazy to wander back through the thread, so what is OP&OH 14.

Have an offer for Diana M that came yesterday. Have to buy a dozen. Not sure if I need that much.

$100 a bottle does seem ok for the current Diana now that Penfolds 707 is $480. Had a Vanya recently and it wasn't 3 times as good as Diana Madeline according to my taste buds. We will be in California next week so I can try some reds by the glass over the road at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. That is where I discovered Silver Oak.

$5 off $40 click and collect at BWS, combined with spend $50 get $15 AMEX offer may be tempting for some beers and spirits. Also, starting tomorrow there will be an additional 25% off all wines in 6 packs.

You've answered part of your earlier question above!

As for specifics, these wines might be of interest, when combining all of the offers you mentioned:

Bannockburn Chardonnay ~$36.50 (Dan's ~$53)
Pewsey Vale Riesling ~ $11 ($16)
Jim Barry Riesling ~ $12 ($15)
St John's Road Peace of Eden Riesling ~$16 ($19)

2016 is turning out to be a cracking year for Clare/Eden Riesling.

There's also a couple of back vintages of grange for $450, if that's more your style (Amex credit is insignificant).

EDIT: 2004 & 2005 are the Grange back Vintages. With 5% discounted wish card, $427. Wine star have 2005 for $700! Even BWS usual price of $600 is significantly cheaper.

AdMel, it appears not all wines are included in the 25% off. Just did a dummy purchase and the Pewsey Vale is not discounted in any six.

Seems a pity to blow a six bottle purchase on one amex. Any way to split payment across CCs?
