Thinking about a week away with wife and 2 girls (under 4) to Bali, mainly to de-stress trouble and strife while I spend 8 hours a day with the kids in the pool. Much prefer QF over JQ for many reasons, the one thing I can't get out of my head is being on a domestic 737-800 for 7 hours. The daytime flight there doesn't worry me that much, it's the overnight return. I know JQ's 787 is cramped, is it really any better than 737 in Y?

Can anyone comment on the config of the 737's QF use for this route? refurbed with seat back IFE?

i would take QF Y on the 737 over the JQ 787 very quickly given the better seat comfort and pitch - have sworn off Y in a JQ 787 for life (even in front Y or exit rows) given the cramped quarters and poor seats - it's 3/3 vs 3/3/3 and the extra aisle doesn't make the 787 feel any roomier given how many pax are crammed in.

its a long time in a narrow body but if youre not willing to go garuda then not much choice

It will be a BSI (newer) 737 with seat-back entertainment, and I believe that the middle seat is also blocked in the first few rows of economy.

Although an overnight flight on a 737 is not my cup of tea either, I'd say it will be a more pleasant experience than Jetstar on the 787.

Aaah the love affair with QF. I would much rather an aisle seat in the centre bank of three on JQ 787 than on QF 737.

The other kicker with JQ is kids. When it's just us we could forego most luggage, meals, entertainment etc. and keep the price down to basically the fare.

Add in seat selection, meals, snacks, entertainment, luggage etc. on JQ for 4 and it very quickly blows out to the point that I'll forego seat issues unless there's a wild difference.
