Thought I would start a thread to document how Qantas gives its Perth-based customers a raw deal.

1. On the web pages for sales or "flight deals", you can't even pick "Europe" as a destination category from Perth, as you can from Sydney.
2. On the same pages, if you select "South Pacific"as a destination category, only fares to NZ will be shown. Sydney also shows fares to Noumea, Fiji and Papeete.
3. If you ask the iOS app to alert you when there are cheap fares to a destination such as Noumea, it never will, because these are never officially "on sale" from Perth, even when they are.

I get what you're saying, but Perth does have the best domestic lounge in Aus.
Though probably would've been canned if the resources bubble had burst earlier.

That is true although a business lounge was a long time coming, and, rather oddly, the Qantas Club was (and is) smaller than Adelaide's.
But we must acknowledge the good with the bad.

Yes we try to get into the Perth business lounge more than 10 times a year. We don't have Qantas flying internationally to anywhere we want to go so we go with SQ for Europe and the US.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I would think that has more to do with ADL QC also being used as an international lounge for EK, MH, NZ, QR etc. That and they probably got very cheap real estate there ;)

The original design for the ADL terminal had space reserved for a Qantas international departures lounge after emigration. Qantas decided not to proceed.

Yeh. But its on the wrong side of immigration. And there is nothing on the other side but awful domestic chairs. Not even a cafe as such.

If you type in PER into the 'From' flight search field, the first option is not Perth, it is Imperatriz Brazil.

The QF website is the only one I have used were PER is not Perth (as the first or only option).

Quite true - you only make the mistake of going through immigration in ADL early once ;)

I get that the OP has a grudge about Perth being hard done by with Qantas. But frankly do we need a thread such as this?
Lets look at a couple of points raised.

If I type PER into the web page for flights or sales and select South Pacific and select Perth I get a whole range of destinations other that NZ, such as Rarotonga, Noumea, and Port Moresby.
If I select Europe I get a huge range of European cities from Aberdeen to Vienna.

If you type MEL into the from field the first option is CozuMEL in Mexico.

These examples are how the website works. May not suit everyone but that is how it is.

Except the QF site is treating everyone like dirt this morning so I can't check. But you'll probably find I can't see a deal to Christmas Island from Sydney. That might not be a good example but you get the picture.

These are the actual examples.
Not an issue raised by a subsequent poster and attributed to me.

Note that Europe is not an option from Perth.

Just NZ from Perth.

Don't forget it's a simple matter of economies, more people and destinations mean more options. But I do agree the QF IT could do better and linking routes.

I tried to see the same issue for Adelaide. Qantas website is truly bonkers this morning - refreshing every second. Epilepsy anyone?

They have flights to Europe from Perth, you just can't find them through the sales pages - the simple matters of economies, more people and destinations aren't factors in that.

You don't think they concentrate more back office resources on where the income is? Interesting.

Well, goodness help those of us on the island. Compared to PER, I think the income derived from Devonport would be rather slim. Yet,, due to the graciousness of some-one, we can book QF flights on the website from Devonport and even the odd sale fare ...

But someone has created the relevant pages for Perth. It doesn't necessarily take more resources of any kind to code the pages differently.

Lucky islanders! Perhaps we won't have to sell you to NZ to balance the budget after all.

More seriously, I realise it is still possible to search for, find and book fares and even sale fares from Perth, to most destinations.
But you can't find them through the promotional pages for sales and you can't get alerts for cheap or sale fares through the Qantas app.
So a determined traveller will find what they want. I have already booked business flights from PER-NOU return this month for exceptionally good value.
But that was as a result of persistent monitoring of the fares - the fare alert for PER-NOU which I have set up in the Qantas iOS app has never sent me a notification.
Unlike the alert for PER-ADL which has been going off like a cat in a cake box for the past few days.
So really it is Qantas missing out by not marketing these specials to potential PAX from PER.
The point of a sale is to attract PAX who would not otherwise fly, or fly with you.
Not to offer cheaper fares to PAX who are already so committed to flying with you that they are making dummy bookings to check the fares on a daily basis.
 Oops I mean occasionally checking the fares. I'm not obsessive. Honestly.
