Current F Lounge Menu (SYD/MEL) and relevant topics

To complement serfty's breakfast here's todays lunch. Salt and pepper squid and the sticky pork salad with shallots, bean sprouts and pomelo. Both went nicely with Taittinger fizz.

For mains we had Neil Perry's 'Food I Love' Fish Tagine and The red braised lamb shoulder with chilli bean paste and Shanghai noodles. The fish had nice subtle flavours and the lamb was a real chilli zinger. We had The Rule 2013 Shiraz from the decanter and it was a nice smooth wine that paired well with the mains. I'm trying to now make room for dessert.

yum :) not tom yum but still yum

Watch out for those little red coughs ...

But yes, by using careful discretion, I was able to balance things and can still recall the nice after glow to my palate so generated.

Washed down with a Penfolds Bin 28 2013 Shiraz.

The egg white omelette looks superb

Pic below is the roast duck and radicchio. The duck was perfectly cooked and very tasty. A bit on the small side, and I'm not a huge fan of radicchio -- in future I'd order some separate vegetables. But it went very well with a 2011 Brokenwood Pinot Noir.

Also had the lamb shoulder and Shanghai noodles -- it was fantastic. The sticky pork salad wasn't great -- the pork was very dry and tough.

MEL F lounge, for reference.

All up I like this menu. Pity I'm not currently likely to be flying OW international in the next couple of months.

What's the average wait time from order to meal delivery (as in 'quick' or 'so so' or 'hipster café on a weekend')?

I can depend. If it's not busy, it's pretty quick. If it's busy, you might have to wait 10 mins for your order. If you're in a rush, try to read the menu before you go and have you order in mind so you can get the order as soon as they seat you.

I've had fastest service in MEL, followed by SYD, and then LAX. MEL seems to handle rush times a tad better, but that may just simply be because the service area is smaller and it's a shorter walk for servers. I've had "hipster cafe on the weekend" wait times for food in LA when it wasn't even all that busy. :(

That would depend on how busy they are (how full the lounge happens to be with people wanting food). If you're not getting a spa treatment (or even if you are, once you've made your booking and if it's not for a while) it would probably be best to head straight to the dining area.

I haven't been to the QANTAS F Lounge yet, but in F lounges food on the a la carte menu is cooked on demand so there will be a bit of a wait. Don't expect to be able to order food at the last minute and eat it before you board.

It does vary but to note I have been served what I would regard as their staple favourites (corn fritters; sashimi; and salt&pepper squid) within 90 seconds of the order being entered on the system (once was quicker than the wine). So there's some that are pre-prepared I reckon, simply because they go through them so quickly. I've also seen the egg and bacon rolls produced in batches and left out in one of the lounge eating areas. Not very appetising to be honest but an option for those without much time on the earlier flights I guess.
