Add airport codes to mouseover acronyms defition

Is it at all possible to add Airport codes to wee popover definition that appears for some acronyms (like the FF tiers and a few others)?

For instance, if I hover over MEL it will tell me quite helpfully that it means 'Melbourne Airport'.

While some members seemingly have the IATA database in their head, this might help the rest of us.

With possibly a special popup for "DBX" saying something like "Common mistake for DXB Dubai - this is used by people who are almost there or suffer haste or dyslexia"

I use a geasemonkey script for this ... although it can corrupt some links to URL's.

I have now added about 30 of the most popular (as defined by IATA) airport codes. The only Aussie code is SYD. Will add more later. Thanks again for a great suggestion.

The word "can" was identified as Guangzhou!!

Oops!! Thats always the problem with any kind of automated recognition. I have now disabled CAN so the system won't recognise it as either Guangzhou or the verb!

Oops!! Thats always the problem with any kind of automated recognition. I have now disabled CAN so the system won't recognise it as either Guangzhou or the verb!

Could the system be set so that it recognises capitalised words only, as we tend to do that when using the IATA codes but rarely find ourselves 'shouting' in the forum?

I think the list would have to be carefully examined to make sure acronym's that are also words aren't incorrectly highlighted. Could also be a problem when an acronym means two or more different things.

I've always complained about this country being Sydney centric, this just proves it.. Really, it's a wonder this idea hadn't been thought of long ago given how many airport acronyms are used in so many posts.
