Mr Shouty in the lounge

Have you ever actually done that? ;)
Honestly? No. I'm fortunate in that i've not had too many Shouty McShoutshout's around me (I don't tend to take train/bus etc as I drive everywhere). Seem to do well in missing them in lounges too.

This is standard in the VA and QF lounges.

Which ones? I use VA lounges a lot and QF sometimes and I'd suggest it's far from standard. My estimation is it's an odd wally who is likely NOT a frequent flyer, but thinks to be a frequent flyer you also have to be a wanker. (not true of course)

I've had 3 people in the row across from me talking openly and the one in the aisle reading a document marked confidential (I could see the content).

I lent over and said hey guys, just to let you know, I work for your competitor (which was true) and probably should not be hearing your conversation.

Dead silence followed.

Was it a construction company. A few year ago there were 2 blokes sitting in a QF lounge. Everytime the boss got a call, he wasn't too bad at talking quietly, the other guy would ring someone and start going on about how he thought they should test some concrete samples. He was the loud one. Can't imagine what the people he called where thinking, but even I could tell he was just making up utter nonsense.

I worked out it was a teleconference with his group of staff and the twerp who was across from him. Luckily they didn't have their phones on speaker so I couldn't hear the other side. The colleague was the one who told the team that Mr McShouty (I know his first name) was going to work for a well-known construction company and it would help with their future relationship. McShouty chimed in with "it will help with onboarding" (wankspeak for I don't know what!)

I really wish I could put it on Twitter or something but I'm not that mean.

"it will help with onboarding" (wankspeak for I don't know what!)

Onboarding is simply the induction process for a new employee (usually larger company HR term).

I once contracted to a Gov't where an employee was in all kinds of financial strife and going through a reasonably bitter marriage breakup. How do I know that, you may well ask? I know because he had an unfathomable need to speak at a volume which one can only assume indicated he didn't actually realise a telephone didn't work like two tin cans and a piece of string, but to add to his shouting down the line, he also always had the damn thing on loudspeaker with the volume right up. What made it all the more bizarre, was that he refused to disappear to a quiet corner to carry on his very sensitive conversations, preferring instead to remain where he was and let everyone listen (and this included young teenage members of the public in a classroom environment where phones are officially banned). To add to the problem, the management had difficulty steering him to a more appropriate pathway to engage in his debates, as they wanted to get rid of him, but Gov't being Gov't, they couldn't just sack him........they had to pander to his "needs". Buggered if I know why his "needs" outweighed the rest of our "needs" for peace and quiet.

...........

Spoken like a true gentleman, Denali.

Or at least I think so......

As Swanning_it says, onboarding is a HR term. Akin to orientation. Sounds dastardly, but is actually rather dull.

The variant I find most annoying is the ones that patrol up and down a section of the lounge talking loudly on the phone. Spreading the joy to a wider audience.

Or those who leave the people they are sitting with so as not to disturb them ... only to go and stand next to someone else!

If course its true! You don't call us WPs for nothing

Cheers skip

I was in the Lounge at Helsinki when a Mr Shouty started on his mobile phone, speaking in Finnish so I had no idea what he was saying. Its a big Lounge and he was no where near us.

I just blocked it out but my partner was getting more and more annoyed. So I had to listen to Mr Shouty and my partner complaining under his breath.

Mr Shouty has his mobile plugged in and talked loudly for about an hour when he then started singing to whoever was on the other end of his call...no joke!

After another 15 minutes, he stopped and then left, only to reappear 10 minutes later looking for his passport which he had left down the side of a chair.

I've found that on trains and in public people who talk in another language don't bother me as much as I don't understand a word so it becomes background noise. Unless they are VERY loud. Even a quiet conversation on a phone on a train can be intrusive when reading. "Yeah Mum it's Sharon. Yeah nah I'm on the train..."

I always notice the shouting phone user who paces back and forth in a specific range across footpaths and train platforms as u try to get past. They normally throw in sudden arm movements that u cannot predict and often seem to bellow non stop so I'm not sure if anyone is even on the other end of the phone.

Or the classic "I'm at the airport waiting for the plane"

Indeed.

If there's a quiet unoccupied corner of a lounge that's where I will always sit. But that peace is often disturbed by people coming to talk on their phones. If it's only for a minute or two and at regular volume - no drama - and at least they are making an attempt to move away from crowded areas. But sometimes it is very frustrating.

My worst experience of a Mr Shouty was in the LAX AA Flagship Lounge. For about 20 minutes a 'gentleman' speaking loudly on a range of work and personal issues. Biggest problem was every third word was an expletive. I eventually moved away.

I find the same thing. It's because inanities and narcissists are not recognisable when you can't understand them. ;)

had a Mr Shouty in the *A First Class Lounge in LAX - while some of us had actual dinner companions, or read a book while dining, Mr Shouty had his mate on speakerphone at full noise. Even people down the far end of the lounge would look up when he'd launch into a new tale and either swear, laugh or swear and laugh.

It used to be nice in the old NZ AKL lunge where they enforced the no phone call area.
