Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

Definitely all over now.
Leave at 51.8% with 94.5% of vote counted.
Sinn Fein and SNP now calling for referendums for Northern Ireland and Scotland to leave the UK.

The map I posted upthread explains why!

Not surprisingly.

Scotland voted 62% in favour of staying and NI about 57%

If the Brexit camp wins, which now seems to be the case, the most interesting time will be the weeks and months ahead as we find out what the ramifications will be.
Watch this space.

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

It does highlight the value of compulsory voting, no? With only 72% bothering to vote the word is that complacency among Remainers meant they didn't bother to front up to vote.

What is the idea of voting on a weekday anyway? No wonder it's voluntary. I wouldn't be voting all that often under those conditions.

Not straight away. When companies start pulling money and businesses, then they will realise their HUGE mistake.

If companies start doing that THEY will soon be the ones to realise their "HUGER" mistake

Re: UK - in or out of the EU?

The result is so obvious now and I wonder if David Cameron will resign. Should he?

He was delivered a letter by the 82 Brexit MP's who urged him to stay. He has the mandate...yet, AFP are saying:

UK to leave EU after 45 years of membership
Britain is leaving the EU, with the vote count complete and the shockwaves reverberating across the globe.
With 374 out of 382 regional results declared, there were 16.8 million votes for “Leave” and 15.7 million for “Remain”, making it mathematically impossible for “Remain” to win.
Prime Minister David Cameron, head of the Conservative government, is expected to make a statement, most likely outside his official residence at 10 Downing Street.
Former London Mayor Boris Johnson has not indicated when he will speak about the “leave” campaign success, but UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, who spoke several times late Thursday and early Friday, plans a further statement Friday morning.
Mr Cameron’s defeat in the referendum represents a political earthquake that may re-shape the Tory party leadership, which was deeply split by the Brexit issue, and could cost him his job.
“He’s almost certainly got to go,” said Tim Bale, a professor of politics at Queen Mary, University of London. “There are too many people who will see him as someone who lost his legitimacy and ... was outplayed by an opponent who wants to take over as a leader.”

Behind a paywall for me as well - you must be a subscriber Comoman.

With due respect to Terry McCrann, I'll take the information from a friend and an expert (plus a Flyertalk member to boot) any day:

Be in absolutely no doubt - Brexit poses a grave threat to the very existence of the EU, which will inevitably threaten global stability with frightening and inescapable ramifications for the peace and calm of the United Kingdom.
