Are other airlines also as bad as Qantas?

Well this was pure QF service. On QF62 last night and the small plates menu had sea bream cerviche so I thought that would make a nice appetiser and follow it with the pork belly sliders."sir both those are main courses tonight so you are only allowed one."Didn't see a cerviche going out......
MrLtL did manage to get two plates of 'supper' on a flight from SIN a while back. Asked for one and a cheese plate and got both. He was very underwhelmed by the offerings as we had not had a chance to eat in the lounge (which I think they assume you will do).

Flying Mermaid - looks like you have moved straight to Mother of the Bride mode :)

Then an hour after take off the FA comes around and says would you like a drink whilst waiting for your meal. What have you got?White wine, red wine and spirits. What red wines do you have.A cabernet and shiraz.Exactly which brands so then he brings the bottles.
Wow what a business class experience.

It actually reminds me of a remote country pub some years ago where the publican proudly stated "we have both sorts of wine here: red and white". He was not being ironic.

Why is it so hard to get an answer to a simple question? I like to know what I am intending to drink and 'red or white' is far less relevant than variety, region and winery. It's not rocket science to know the names of the wines, even if written on a piece of paper: I would be quite happy with that. Not a big ask especialy in premium classes.

If QF really want to avoid passenger confsuoion and differentiate between entrees and main courses then they should call them by the correct names: entree and main course. Referring to plate sizes just indicates which dishes would be better for the really hungry. Before someone writes that entree means something else in the USA, our cousins from the LOTPAF can learn some real English and embrace the joys of learning how others do things.

Surely the FA could have said 'I'm sorry these are both main courses but if there is one left over after the other pax have chosen I can bring you both. Which is your preferred choice?'

I think that the tepid gunk (can't really call it food and it is not served at a safe food handling temperature) in the awful cardboard boxes on DXB-LHR sectors in J are completely unacceptable. Other airlines mange real food on real plates with a table cloth, cutlery and a cloth napkin on 7 hour flights, even overnight ones. Another example of a QF 'enhancement' that just degrades the whole premium experience.

Qantas, it is not that hard to provide a premium service in a premium cabin: knowledgeable, professional staff, proper cutlery, crockery and glassware accompanied by tablecloths and cloth napkins. Simple!

For every journey (to quote an airline)

Surely you are not serious! Cardboard boxes in international J? If that is true (and I guess it must be otherwise you wouldn't say it), Qantas really have lost the plot....

Sad but true. Not the soggy ones you get on dom that burn your hands. These are white and tall than wide (so unstable) and look like mini versions of the ones some asian takeaways use (usually not in Aus). These are handed out with low grade wooden chopsticks and paper coughtail napkin. This is meant to be lunch on the way in to LHR. Really abysmal

We have had those in J on QF61 as well but at least it is the second meal.Still tacky.

I thought that was the pre-arrival snack? They hand them out prior to arrival on the overnight flights from Asia into Australia too.

And you pay a premium to be patriotic. Something the Irish obviously can't understand.

Maybe that is where I got it wrong! I usually have lunch at midday and get snacks between the meal services. Regardless other airlines manage 2 proper meals on 7 hour flights in J. And in J on a full service airline I expect proper cutlery, crockery, napkin etc.

No QF62 is the overnight into BNE from NRT and you get the "small plate"menu.Breakfast pre arrival.
It was on QF61 the day flight to NRT.It is the second meal so could be treated as a pre arrival snack.

I totally agree - I don't care whether it is a snack or not, cardboard boxes just sound fast food and LCC! It doesn't need to be tablecloths and full service, but at least a tray and some cutlery and a napkin.

Pax have been complaining about the lack of proper meals towards the end of QFi flights for longer than I have been a AFF member. It started with the 'cafe-style' breakfasts and now has spread to other flights. QF just don't seem to get it: if they want to compete they have to offer a product that matches or beats the competition.

If Joyce et al are serious about making QFi profitable they might like to consider real customer feedback and offering a product we want to buy.

Time for a nice cup of tea and lie down until a sense of reality returns

An alternative business strategy is to simply become a travel agent for a large Middle Eastern airline!! This way you do not need to compete with anybody, just set up a web site, and for 8 out of 10 searches, offer flights on the other airline you're in bed with. Voila, problem solved!

Ummm - no doubt QF will say they have only introduced cardboard containers at the request of customers... not something QF would have wanted.

The same as the removal of anytime access, cafe breakfasts, the charging for exit rows, simpler and fairer. All introduced, they claim, to satisfy customer demands as part of the feedback process.

Of late, I have been using EK and JAL in both F and J in preference to QF. The fares are usually cheaper and serve better meals on real crockery, steel knives and forks with cloth napkins and table cloths...and actually make you feel welcome. QF tend to be more "casual"..."well, we fed ya...sort of...what else do you want, we may have ran out of a few items"
So, Are other airlines as bad as Qantas..maybe other Australian airlines..we tend to be so casual here, it translates into our airlines service. Whereas the Asian and middle east carriers see providing good service as part of the airlines basic customer care. Usually, I fly QF domestically here in Y....the reason why I never fly Y on long haul anymore.

From a business intelligence perspective the removal of anytime access has to be one of the silliest changes. How else do you get to know where your top FF are going andwith whom when not flying with you? Quite cheap at the cost of a glass or two of champagne

My experience is limited to QF36 where you are served (a full) dinner as the first meal and then this pre-arrival snack prior to landing.

It is the message I am getting. I love Qantas staff, but I am just tired of all the things that have gone wrong. I also don't believe the service or food is anywhere near as good as it was say 10 or 15 years ago. We will see after I have experienced SQ F. I enjoyed the food much more on Emirates and service was fine. Didn't find the beds as comfortable as Qantas F and at our age the bed is quite important. :). I think the service ethos is much better in Asia, but Qantas seemed to manage to get good service in F in days gone past - not quite sure what has happened, but I agree - still very friendly and charming but just not as good.

One reason for the poorer food is that the J & F menus have a lot of dishes in common: i.e. pay F eat J (with extras). In years gone by the menus for J & F were compeltely different.

Another QF enhancement for every journey!

Strengthening the impression that QF is now run only by accountants and spin doctors.
