App that holds all upcoming flight details

I don't particularly like giving TripIt access to my emails, so I simply created a new Gmail account and linked it to that instead. I can then forward itineraries that I want captured to the new email address.
You don't have to give them access to your emails, that should be clear. They dont just provide this service to Gmail customers ! :)
I just forward the itinerary emails to [email protected] and it works perfectly. What you have done is create an extra level of work for no benefit.

Tripcase for me. I've had a couple of issues getting the app to read itineraries. I either resend the email or enter it in manually.

The old fashioned way .... remember my flight number .... :) And second method - SQ app as most of my flights are on SQ or MI .. ;)

I do forward my trips to worldmate, but I tend to use that more as a historical record than anything. For me, I find the most important thing is to get my flights into my calendar, as I'm not one who relies on apps for gate change notifications, delays notifications etc. I expect these things are more important if travelling in the US a lot.

Well I've struck my first hurdle.

...
I email my notes to Tripit which is set to put everything to "unfiled". From there I put it to a specific trip.

So i always have a retrievable copy in my email archives.

I am happy to just use Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Now. Works well with VA, JQ/3K and SQ. Not so well with QF (and I assume any other airline which hides the flight details etc within email attachments rather than the email itself). Works for hotel bookings as well.

You do not need to do anything at all. Google Now will automatically extract all of the info required. It gives flight updates on the day of travel, on VA it will automatically download the QR code for boarding, gives travel times to the airport including traffic etc and even works on codeshare flights.

One click from Google Now or Calendar will bring up the reference email from Gmail. Directions to hotels etc are automatically generated in Google Maps from Google Now.

My vote is for TripIT.
With a special mention to Google Inbox (inbox.google.com for those that haven't used it) for it's automatic flight grouping.

I don't give it access to me email account - instead I just forward all travel emails to [email protected] and it works fine.
I linke my account with my partner and we use it for work and personal travel.
Also no issue with our corporate travel agent (CTM).

Another one for tripit - just forward the emails - don't let them have access to my email or calendar and you can download the ics file and add it outlook - I love it and love being able to share with others so they know where I am (still think SmartTraveller should let Tripit manage their website - it's abysmal)

I note that the OP asked about tracking flights. Great that Tripit does hotels and everything else, just wondering if the OP is interested in that functionality.

I'm also looking at My Flights but according to the information they provide at the download point in the Apple Store, the app only monitors Amadeus, not Sabre, bookings.

Used to do it, seems I need to keep up with things better. My Flights has a notes capacity against each booking. But it might be a bit clunky for the detail you use, in adding the info via the app. The app also allows manual entry of flights as well.
The big advantage I find is the automatic tracking of changes. Assuming you could look up the AA booking reference to add it, you flight change debarcle wouldn't have happened.

My Flights stopped working for SABRE when VirtuallyThere was decomissioned sometime after the middle of last year.

That explains it. I suppose I should keep up with these things.

Possibly not. But if it is 'line ball' wrt tracking flights between suggested applications, then being aware of the added functionality might help make a decision. :) And added info may assist others visiting this thread who may not have such specific wants. Personally - I wasn't aware of the Google Inbox / flight bundles until this thread. Am now looking into this very closely, so another satisfied customer of AFF.

I also use Tripcase.
For several airlines (such as EY) the itineraries appear in Tripcase automatically with no action from me at all.
For others it can link to them using the PNR and last name.
For anything else, I forward the emails.

Yes realised that when I previously said I had problems with TripIT, it was actually Tripcase that couldn't handle the itineraries.

+1 on the Google thing, it sounds really good. I haven't checked it out yet as my preferred option is working at present.
I guess my question was more of a reflection on what the OP wants to achieve. In terms of purely tracking flights/bookings My Flights is excellent - where it can track the reference number. Adding in car hire/hotels/etc. functionality seems to reduce the capacity for keeping track of changes to flights. No doubt because they're trying to do something much more complex.

+1 on that. Totally found it by accident a while ago.

Using Tripit, and as I always forward everything to Gmail for easy access OS, noticed everything was updated automatically.

Also on the google inbox, it can and does read attachments to the email. I got a very large PDF attachment for a family holiday that I booked through a travel agent. It pulled all of the data through to present to me in the trips folder, flights and accommodation only though, no transfer details.

In respect of Google Inbox and trip bundling, I have a Gmail account which I don't use and have just 'upgraded'? it to Inbox.

I don't want to use that e-mail address as a regular thing, not even to have travel e-mails sent directly to it, at least not before I see it in action and see if I want to [-]sell[/-] give over for free a bit more of my personal life to the Google servers.

Would it 'work' if I forwarded to my gmail address from my regular Outlook / work e-mail, the e-mails I want it to process?

In short, yes.

What I do is forward the emails from my 'home' account to Gmail. Just as you are suggesting. Tripit automatically picks it up and adds it. Might be a small time lapse, a day or so, but for me it always appears. Usually sends an acknowledgment email.

Thanks again; you say TripIt picks it up from the Gmail account. I was talking more about Google 'Trip bundling' being able to process forwarded e-mails.

I had gathered from this thread about being able to give TripIt access to an e-mail account, which horrified me a bit, but with the 'gmail for travel only' model, even that might work.

Now, how does one get flights loaded automatically into AFF Flight Tracker? ;)
